Site interrupted, or, Maybe I've already got a niche worth pursuing

I have made up my mind that, come hell or highwater, I simply MUST give this internet business thin another try and, what's more, actually (over time, of course) make a living doing it. So, one thing has led to another and I have been led to WA. What next?

I posted this just moments ago, and thought I'd cross post it here as my very first WA blog entry:

So... choosing a niche....

I've already got a WP blog I began earlier this Summer. It's called The Observer's Cockpit, and deals with my interest in First World War aviation — not only the history, the airplanes and the pilots, but things like fiction, aviation artwork, and (a favourite hobby of mine), building scale models of these unique early aircraft.

I was knocked off track pretty quickly, when a quick decision to move from the UK back to the States left precious little time for blogging. Now that I'm resettled and looking to develop a Web business in earnest, perhaps my "site interrupted" is the place to begin. There are certainly books and products that I could promote, and probably a lot else, if I do my research.

What with the centenary observation of the First World War coming up in 2014, there might even be a significant spike in interest in this topic. What do y'all think?

I've got another niche in mind as well. I've been taking a good number of MOOCs (Massive Online Open Courses; look it up), and have become very interested in alternative paths to receiving a higher level education… advancing ones own learning non-traditionally… designing one's own educational path. I sense there is potential here, and I'm growing quite passionate about the whole subject — not only learning, but exploring my own abilities as a teacher.

I know there's a place here in Florida called "Fantasy of Flight" that draws a pretty good volume of visitors, based in large part on its collection of aircraft from the world wars, so there's obviously interest. Maybe you could even interview people like the owner of that place and others with an interest and expertise in the field. That way, they might link you on their Facebook pages and tweet your posts, which is a great way to get traffic.

parkwriter, very good suggestions, and I thank you for them. There obviously is a great deal of interest in the old aircraft. While living in the UK, I made two excursion to the RAF Museum in London, and there seemed no shortage of folks coming and going from there.

Just replied to this in your other post

tombo87... I saw your comment over there, and I appreciate it very much. You kind of confirmed that I might want to go on with that niche, and I can always move into another one later. Where are ya in the UK? I was living in rural Norfolk for the last several years, as I married m'self a British girl almost ten years ago. Best thing I ever did. ;-)
