Another lesson learned

Following my blog yesterday ....

I learned a valuable lesson - use the 'copy and paste' facilities on the PC! It's so easy to do and it eradicates typo's on those all important links that could potentially make you money.

Ok, so the typo earlier was just a link to my website to get some feedback. But.... what if that had been a link to a product??? A recurring membership??? My potential customer would have been away to one of my competitors and my hard work would have amounted to nothing. Nil.Zilch.

And for what? CTRL-C followed by CTRL-V, that's all. Or two right clicks of the mouse, one to copy and one to paste.

I guess what I'm saying is that we should ALWAYS use copy and paste when it's an important link or it could cost more than money - reputation and repeat visits spring to mind immediately.

Lesson learned.

Richard.

Good point. When I got my new computer, I typed in the password wrong. Had no idea what I had typed. Took hours for me & Dell support to get things going. He used notepad to put the password & then he copied & pasted. A good lesson.

You'll learn lots of little tricks like these as you progress :)

Thanks for sharing that lesson. Definitely a lesson I don't wanna learn the hard way.

The good thing is that you learned something from the experience, and that you were able to correct it. Every time you learn something, it's a great experience.

Hi Richard - I agree 100%.

I run a system that needs people to logon (username/password) - when they have problems, they 99% of the time are adamant they have keyed their password correctly. When I send them a log of "failed/incorrect passwords" I don't hear from them again - as they have realised they were not typing it in correctly afterall.

My recommendation is, have a spreadheet/text file whatever (I use Google Docs) - where you copy a link from the URL bar in your browser (I do this, as it's from a tested and confirmed screen - as you can see in front of you) - then paste it into a line in a spreadsheet on Google - I then use that as my source for copying from, and pasting into websites, posts etc.

All the best, Mark

Anything important I cut and paste. Typos do happen and like you mention could cost you money. Thanks for sharing. Debbie
