Every Journey Starts with the First Step

I have watched many people I know begin a journey. My sister began her journey into weight loss a year ago. I remember, even while supporting her, thinking she was crazy. How would she be able to maintain this path she set for herself? It was a very hard road indeed. She would throw up during and after workouts. She got up at ungodly hours in the morning, watched every bite she took. But now, a year later, I look at her and think, "If I had joined her, I would look just as good as she does."

My sister had the desire and courage to take that first step when even walking up a flight of stairs was an effort. While I am sure I need to lose weight, that really isn't my passion or goal right now. My goal is to be the one to control my schedule, income, and career. I am tired of using my time and skills, and yes loyalty, for another. I work for a great company. But really, I want to work for myself.

I don't want to be a millionaire. I want to make enough to contribute financially to my family while being able to be there for them, enjoy the time we have. My kids are grown, in college or on their own. Yet they still need their mom. I wish I had started this journey years ago, when I first wanted to. But every journey begins with one step. I have taken that first step. Now onward down the path. I can't wait to look back next year and see how far I've come!

Good on you Rhonda! You have seen from your sister's example that it takes courage, dedication and persistance - but most of all FOCUS and PASSION to achieve our goals!

Your sister probably had an image in her mind, as she sweated and toiled, of herself as a healthy, slim, beaitiful woman, wearing sexy, slinky outfits. She could probably already hear what people would say to her (eg. Wow! You look fantastic!), and she could already feel the admiration. By keeping the end result in mind, she could probably already taste and smell success. (Notice the modalities of the five senses - see, hear, feel, taste, smell - engage them all.) Ask her how she did it (she may not know consciously).

I remind myself now when I slack off - "If it is important to you, you will find a way - If not, you will find an excuse." I ask - 'Do I REALLY want this?'
Good luck, Rhonda - you can do it!

My wife still thinks i just start a new hobby. She doesn't understand what i really want to do with all the knowledge i am getting at WA.
