There is a chrome ext. called commerce inspector. If you visit any shopify store it will tell you what plugins the site is using. Is there anything out there that would help fi

You get the list of it here https://whatwpthemeisthat.com/ although, I see it's not complete, you could ask the developer if it's not on the list

Hey Robert,

If it is a WordPress website, then Google searching "what wp theme are they using" (without the quotation marks, of course) will reveal a few free websites to help you discover some if not all of the plugins used.

Hope you find this helpful.

Good question. It would be nice to discover what themes some sites are using as well. I’ll be looking back in to see what answers you get.

How do you find out what plugins a wp site has?

Just wondering what plugin you are using to check for broken backlinks? The most downloaded plugin is no longer supported. Tks!

Oops. Looks like I phrased that wrong. I should have said Broken Link Checker. The plugin checks for broken links.
Here is a short description from a broken link plugin:

This plugin will monitor your blog looking for broken links and let you know if any are found.

Features

Monitors links in your posts, pages, comments, the blogroll, and custom fields (optional).

Detects links that don’t work, missing images and redirects.

Notifies you either via the Dashboard or by email.

Makes broken links display differently in posts (optional).

Prevents search engines from following broken links (optional).

You can search and filter links by URL, anchor text and so on.
Links can be edited directly from the plugin’s page, without manually updating each post.

Highly configurable.
-----
The one with the most downloads has not been updated for over a year. This probably means it's no longer being supported. So, I was wondering what everyone else might be using.

You don't need to add a plugin, Robert. There's a free online app to check for broken links.

Thanks, Marion! I'll be adding this to my bookmarks!

Hi Robert, I'm not sure if you mean backlinks to other websites or backlinks within your own site that are broken and showing 404 errors. if it's the latter, then "Simple 301 redirects" is what you want to install. Then compile the list of 404 broken links and redirect them to the proper link to fix them.

Sorry for the confusion, I had stated the question wrong. Although I'm concerned about all my links, what I really want to keep an eye on are the outbound links I put in my post. If someone takes down their page and or site, this plugin will alert me to it so that I can go in and remove it.

Ah gotcha, I'm afraid I do not have a plugin suggestion for that, perhaps someone else can recommend the one you need.

Bob, what plugin are you talking about?

It's called "Broken Link Checker" But this plugin has not been updated in over a year and it's untested for the latest version of WP

It is still working fine for me. I had a theme like this. As soon as I asked about the not updating, it updated!

I am going to check out Marion's link though.

There are a lot of free and paid sites that you can go to to get a picture that you can use legally on your website. If you go and do a Google search for images, my understandi

I just want to say a big thank you for taking the time to respond to my question. I truly appreciate it. Thank you all!!!

Hey Robert,

The ONLY time I have done this is when using that image as a clickable link to that video... else, once again, you COULD open yourself up for a lawsuit.

Hope this helps you.

Where attribution is allowed and credited only!

if it is a new tube it is in the public domain and yes you can use it. You can however link back to the source

I would not feel that was ethical unless there was a disclaimer allowing such action.

Derek

I have been searching for free photos. I have not been able to find secure sites for photo clipping.
Janet

Hi Janet
Go to my blog on this subject and there is quite a list you can go to for free images. If you are still stuck then get in touch.
Not right away though as I'm going out for a few hours.
Enjoy your Wednesday.
Robert

If its in the Public Domain I would say ok but not in the Public Domain you are asking for trouble

In my opinion it is if you are going to give the credits

I think I'm missing something basic. How do you decide wether to use a page or a post. Somethings are very obvious , your weekly articles go on posts your About Us, Contact, Pr

I want to thank all that have taken the time to respond to my question. The fear of making the wrong decision then needing to go back and change everything was slowing down my progress on building my new blog. Thanks again!

you're most welcome! ... we're all just trying to do our best... enjoy the journey, cheerio... :)

Hey Robert,

Posts are if you want your articles to appear on your blog roll. Pages are more for your Contact, Privacy Policy, About, and Disclaimers.

Should you decide you want to change a page to a post (or visa versa), here's an easy way to do that: Hope you find this helpful.

That's very handy! Tks!

from my understanding:

--- pages are static e.g. privacy policy, about us, contact (meaning there really isn't much change to do or comment)

whereas, posts are dynamic (like your blog) where you write up articles, reviews for comment-engagement by your audience/readers...

hope that helps to delineate the two ... cheerio... )

used to be to do with - do you want comments on it or not - yes - a post no - a page.
now anything can have comments.
so now for me it is do you want it to show in the blog roll - yes post no - page.
why would you not want it to appear in the blog roll -well you may want a load of posts to link to sales page, or product selling page.
good luck with your selection
phil

in the old day you didn't have that chioce as stated.above now anything can have comments.

I just write posts, they are the same things as pages Robert.
