Atlanta
Hello from Atlanta! Just a comment from this area of the world. Just experienced an example of urban meltdown. What a perfect survival observation. Winter storm came in and incapacitated the greater Atlanta scene. Total chaos. Vehicles left everywhere. Mayor and Governor everywhere on CNN blaming and apologizing all over themselves worrying about their political future. Kids left in busses stranded for hours in sub freezing temps on major highways. People leaving work early to only discover there normal commute is 12 to 24 hours. This of course is national news. I have many more stories. Stay tuned.

Trust me Karyskis it was not an exciting time. I was in my car in traffic for 6 hours (normally a 40 minute drive). It was terrible and very poorly planned by the government officials and school superintendents. There are a lot of very upset Atlantans right about now. There was enough time to plan but it didn't happen.
In ATL or BIRMNGHAM? I just stayed home down here near Florida line. They closed our schools ahead of time so nothing like the big cities happened here mainly because we had that awful tornado here in 2007 that demolished the high school and one elementary school entirely! 8 students killed on day my grandson was born 3 blocks away. George Bush was president and he came and spoke. Very touching. Our new H.S is state of the art and best in state yet we are a very small town of about 20,000 with one of best schools in whole state! Enterpride as we say of our town, Enterprise, AL . Eight kids died the same hour my grandson was born...people in ER were crying when the Brahms Lullaby began to play...signifying a new birth. It was bittersweet! Our ob-gyn gave daughter a c-section because they needed all available surgical units. His own daughter trapped under debris at hi school, yet he stayed with us while I babysat his 8 yr old who was safe at last. Very strange, horrible, wonderful day. I see I must write an article about it so I can write more. It's on my Facebook pg under Grandson Gibson born Day of Tornado...Sheila Flynt
We just had a storm that pounded us for 6 days. Every road leading in and out of town where closed. Yet people insisted on driving on them leading to pile ups and massive accidents. The best thing people can do is take shelter where you are, don't try and beat a storm, that's how people end up killed.

I spent the night at my employer in Midtown, I-75 was a parking lot, no passage anywhere, goes to show you better be prepared for the unexpected, can't rely on the civil authorities
Glad you were safe. Our roads were closed here in south Alabama for three days because of ice and no equipment for de-icing cause it doesn't happen here...not cost effective, but hey we can manage a hurricane!
