Hello All,

It has been awhile since I've frequented WA. I realized my first website was going to take a lot of time building content due to the nature of the subject. I to

No you can't. Hosting for a bought domain is part of your premium membership. Transfer your hosting before you do leave WA. That way if there are any issues you can still have contact with WA and time to fix it. I believe you have 30 days to transfer your hosting after you leave WA, which is fair amount of time. Transfer before leaving is my best advice.

The cost for external hosting turn's around $4/month for one site or $6 for unlimited sites. Can't give you more info's here, contact me personally.

Hi - I'm not certain, but I don't think the hosting of your own domains is part of the free membership. I'm sure your site will remain available for approx 30 days after cancellation - giving you time to transfer it to another host, if that's what you want to do.

The question of transferring was answered by Carson here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/everything-wordpress/how-do-i-transfer-my-website-from-wa-hosting-to-another-host-say-like-hostgator

I hope this helps, and that you'll come back when you have more time to focus.

All the best Randy,

Mark

Authoring & Writing Content

I have come across an excellent interview from an authority on my niche. The interview is from a magazine related to my field. I want to post this interview to my website becaus

You can write your own article and quote the other author as a source without a link, but bear in mind linking to the article will direct traffic away from your site and into the hands of a potentially rival source of information, and someone you've identified as credible.

Paul, I was thinking the same thing but isn't there a line somwhere in which I should share good information with my visitors regardless of the source because it shows them that I'm not just trying to get their money but genuinely trying to help them out in anyway I can? I'm sure there's a balancing act there that I must deal with, probably just do not have enough experience yet to know exactly how to deal with it.

also, the article and potential future articles and examples that I would want to share on my website will more than likely not involve products or things people can purchase but more so examples of the end results.

My site revolves around 3d architectural visualization and the tools to produce such. The things I'd like to post as inspirations are other articles and examples of renderings that others have achieved and their opinions on the topic.

I hope that makes sense.

I see your problem.

My normal approach would be to read and take notes on a couple of articles and then rewrite them. You seem to have a problem in that it's not so much the articles you want to link to but the images that come with the articles - tricky. My only real suggestion is that if we're talking about 3D visualisation software, then the manufacturer of the software may have images that they're prepared to let you use to promote their product. They may be the same images the other bloke uses, but Google won't see them a duplicate content if you rename each image on your site.

If the images are created by the writer of the article you're trying to link to, I'd drop him an email and ask permission to use the images in return for full accreditation on them, then write your own article quoting him as an expert user.

The thing is you'll always want to create original content, and linking off site to interesting stuff is always a risk.

Maybe I should have been more clear. I understand what you're saying. I guess my question is how can I draw attention to that article on my website other than making a short post and placing a link to the magazine's website where the article is located?

I have shared the article on Twitter, I want to also somehow share it on my website. Is there a good way to do this?

You could just have an image of the magazine in your sidebar and link that.

You can put a "further Reading " link at the bottom of another article if it's related.

But I'm not sure why you wouldn't want to write a short post. If this is valuable then I suggest you write a short post saying why - a few of the main points and then directing them to it.

Beverley

Ok. Yes, I am fine with writing a short post. I was just wondering if there was another alternative I wasn't aware of. Thanks for your help!

My pleasure.

If it comes from a magazine - then the magazine will hold the copyright to the interview and you shouldn't try reproducing it without contacting them for permission first (which I suspect would not be given to you". It's perfectly okay to take quotes from an interview.

Thanks Rich. That is what I have been doing. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong to make it not function as I wanted. I will use the text tab as a reference as well. Thanks!

No probs. you're most welcome! :) Rich.

Unfortunately, this is a limitation of WordPress itself, the "Visual" tab is indicative only, it doesn't give a true wysiwyg view. I find the simplest way to work on a page or post is to have two tabs open in my browser with the editor view in one and the actual view of the page or post in the other. If I'm on my desktop I keep them side by side and simply refresh as I go to see the results. :) Rich.

Also, I will finally find a font and size that I think works on one my pages. I go to that page so I can see what I made the font/size and when I click somewhere in the text or highlight parts of it, neither the font or size adjusts to show me what it is, it just remains 'font family' and 'font size'. Very frustrating!

This is again, a limitation of WordPress itself. If you want to see what font or style has been used, simply click on the Text tab and you'll see
| span style="font-family: ''avant garde'" | etc.
surrounding the styled piece of text you want to replicate. Rich.

It seems this would probably be covered somewhere in the training but I either missed it or haven't gotten far enough. I want to make my own text links an affiliate link. Just a

Yes you can. If you're logged in to your Amazon advertisers page, each Amazon product page will carry your affiliate link in the search bar above. Simply copy the link into the box that appears when you click the chain icon in WP. You can also paste in a text-only link by doing everything you'd do to get the box you don't like, but switching the tab from Text and Image to Text Only.

So I am logged into my amazon assoc. account. I find a product and go to that products page(where you can add it to the cart, see reviews, etc). I can copy/paste the URL of that webpage and use it as the link for my text and/or images? Am I getting that right?

Yes. Check first that your affiliate number appears in the link and off you go. One quick test is to see if you have the dark grey bar at the top of the product page, which carries your linking options, earnings summary etc.

OK. Yep it's there. Thanks for your help!

Thanks Rich. I will be studying those later today!
