Everyone has a right to privacy

Hi guys, so this is my very first blog post ever but I'm writing it because I do feel very passionate about this subject. You see for a little while now I've been getting some emails from my domain provider NameCheap. In the emails they have been saying that a organization called ICANN is trying to implement a rule which will force all WhoIS service providers to give out personal data on their clients to anyone who ask for it.

This rule will only effect website owners who use their sites for commercial purposes, private website owners won't have to worry. What this means is that anyone rather private or legal authority who has a complaint about a website will be able to gain access to a owner's private information with out a court order.

That is exactly what I'm teed off about, what idiot at ICANN came up with this bogus idea in the first place. They are always going to be people who will have a complaint about some product or service and that will always be until the end of time. However; that does not mean that anyone who has a complaint should be able to gain access to a site owner's personal info. If they did that could spell disaster for a small business owner. Why should the little guy have to suffer. Identity theft is already on the rise and they are just some sick and twisted people in this world. What if someone had evil intentions, what would stop them from doing harm to someone?

NameCheap gave me a number and a email to contact ICANN and I couldn't wait to contact them but none of my emails was able to get through. You can bet I will definitely call their number on Saturday 7/4/2015. The deadline to voice your opinion to ICANN is on 7/5/2015.

Here is the interesting thing, even though me and many other people can voice our feelings to ICANN, can any of us contact anyone at ICANN by their personal phone number or email? Can any of us contact the head of the company by any of those means? Would anyone rather the head or otherwise even prefer to be contacted by their personal home phone, email, or even home address? Chances are no they wouldn't so how do they think everyone else feels.

Another reason I posted this blog is because I know I'm not the only one who has NameCheap as a domain provider. Have any of you been receiving any emails from NameCheap about this? If so how do you feel about it? Do want to voice you feelings to ICANN before Sunday? If you do here is the number: 555-555-5555. What do you guys think about all of this? I'm curious to here your thoughts.

You guys do have a point. Now I haven't heard anything from the other providers either although I will still check their sites out just to make sure. I'm also going to check the ICANN website out and if I do find something I will definitely let you guys know. However; the day that I'm posting this comment is 7/8/15 three days after what was suppose to be the deadline for anyone to send their comments to ICANN according to NameCheap. They haven't sent any further updates about the whole thing just yet so maybe this is not something to take as serious after all. Thank you guys for your comments.

I have to agree with ngraddon below. I have my domain name from NameCheap and saw their email, but when I didn't see more than a few mentions here at WA, I was unconcerned. Nothing is really private anymore. It will change nothing I do. If someone steals my identity, I wish them luck with it.:) I know it is not really funny, but I just can't add this to my list of things to stress about. I am wondering why NameCheap is making an issue out of it if the other providers are not. Maybe they are getting ready to push a new product. Time will tell.

I have seen the emails and I have not taken them too seriously. Why is only Namecheap circulating these and not companies like GoDaddy who I also have a domain name through.

If there is any truth to this, all domain name providers would be circulating literature about this but so far I have not seen anything. But yet I have spent little time researching this on other domain name provider websites.

Now I have visited the ICANN website and I cannot locate anything on this site discussing this issue. If it was a critical issue it would be in the Open Public Comments. if you see it please do direct me to the article and I will happily express my discontent.
