Reading Between Lines (The Sequel)

Well After not getting any reads on this topic - Reading Between The Lines, it struck a nerve. So I read more into the course of unintended messages. The truth is we are all in positions to send them. As I am new in this field, I will allow the Wealthy Affiliate experts to elaborate via comments.

The reason we are able to send messages unknowingly is because of what is called Psychological Projections - According to Wikipedia, it is a defence mechanism in which the ego defends itself against unconscious impulses or qualities (both negative and positive) by denying their existence in themselves and attributing them to others. One example that I like was - a confused person might project their confusion and inadequacy to others.

Say I find myself confused about a topic, and one of you sheds a light on the topic I might respond to your comment by projecting my confusion to you and provide a response like - you should relax and not be confused, it make take some time to understand so be patient.

To an unsuspecting commenter, they may accept they are confused and unknowingly respond - Wow, I was not even aware of how confusing this is. This may be their response, even if they were never confused.

So between the lines, there was no intention to deem you confused but I unconsciously deemed you confused and you might have also unconsciously accepted it.

  • Are we aware when we unconsciously send messages between lines?

We might intentionally be mean at the same time we might be unintentionally good. So whether you are intentional or unintentional in what you write being aware you could be harmful is of value.

  • What have you unintentionally written?

Always read between your lines.

Thank you for taking the time to read.

I agree that when we put our words out there, we have to be prepared for the good, the bad, and the ugly in response. Your reader is just sometimes not tuned in to where you are.

Responses tend to represent the immediate state of mind of the responder and it may not be what we were hoping for. Just like communicating with people face to face the first attempt may not connect, it may take rewording and repetition.

That is part of the challenge of writing.
Thanks, Sami

Thank you, Sami. That is a mouthful, it makes such great sense.

Ntlhane this is very enlightening and true. Sometimes one can just respond to a comment not realizing that their response reflects their state of mind or understanding an issue. Most of the times we need to be sensitive on how we respond to others. We need to sensor our responses whether these are positive or not, building or destructive. Let us try and be always positive.

Wow, Senanelo, you are mostly intuitive. Thank you for your positive respoce.
