Why I Think I Picked the Wrong Niche.

So, it's been 10 days since I joined WA and I have become obsessed with affiliate marketing and blogging! I am not working at the moment so I have literally spent ALL day EVERY day immersing myself in the WA training program and doing my own further online research and Im surprised by how much I actually learnt. But I think I picked the wrong niche!

My website www.hijabhaven.com Is focused at the modern muslim women with the purpose of being a rescourse centre for women who choose to wear the veil discussing popular topics appealing to their interests, with the aim of promoting quality products and services to that demographic to monatise the website.

Modest wear and Islamic lifestyle is defenitaley an up and coming niche with many popular fashion brands starting to add modest wear to their lines. There are also many new retailers on the market catering specifically to hijabi women. This indicates a huge potential for growth and with the right strategy should come huge success. Why then do I think I picked the wrong niche?

Low Commission

The fashion industry is known for paying low commision. The maximum I have found is 10% and the highest ticket items are between $100-$200 but the majaority are less than $100.

Short Product Lifecycle

Like with any fashion industry products are promoted seasonally. This means that alot of effort can be put into getting ranked and then once it is the product could be sold out or no longer suitable for the season. This means continuous effort needs to be applied to keep checking for new fashion trends to discuss and link to a product.

High Competition with Influncers

There is a growing number of Influncers that are promoting the few modest wear fashion brands that do have affiate programs and they are literally spending their whole lives taking pictures, styling outfits and documenting their online 'fabulous' lifestyles to allure followers, That is alot of time and effort going into creating original content and media assets that I just don't think I can compete with.

Putting Things on Pause.

I have a passion for writing and this niche is something I can relate to but as a result of my analysis I have decided to put this blog on the back bench for now and re-stratergise to come up with a more profitable model to put my effort into. They say every failure is one step closer to success. So I am not giving up, this is a learning curve and I am confident that with the right strategy and alot of hard work I can succeed.

Tell Me What you Think..

I would love to hear from anyone who is working within the fashion niche. Or anyone with any helpful advice on how I can make this work. Do I have it wrong? Am I about to walk away from a goldmine?

Rayna, you are about to walk away from a goldmine.

Given the time that you have been hear you are making some really good progress.

Creating an online position can take time, but I think that your niche is one whose time is yet to come. So you are on a wave right time right place.

There will be fashion plate influencers in this niche and they will be hogging the limelight.

If you come to this niche with that hybrid model products/ supported by a blog, you will create a community of the like-minded.

Many women are exploring their faith and a blog like you are creating will be like a beacon and draw people in, looking for not only information but also support and that sense that what they are doing is that right thing for them at that stage of their journeys.

I would say stick with it, in the fashion niche the commissions can be low on some products, the key can be to take the long-term view when you build an audience look at developing your own products or adding products that are related to your cire niche.

Best wishes, Ranya.

Thanks for the encouragement Alex. I will see how it goes :)

You are good, Ranya.
Just 10 days, you have already started a website.
I see that Dale has given you an alternative.
Why not you go through the training for now and decide your niche later? Network with the WA community and maybe, just maybe, they may give you inspiration for a new niche.
All the best, Ranya.

Thanks @klchang I will take your advice! :)

10% is still a pretty sweet commission considering all you're doing is connecting people via a link. You're not having to deal with sales, customer support, product development or anything like that - so in reality 10% is a nice cut from a product IMO.

In short what you have to realize is that if businesses can exist in the space, then so can affiliates. If they are selling their products, then so can you.

Yes true, but my biggest concern is that the link or product I promote won't be relevant for a long period as fashion expires quickly. It's not like promoting an ebook or a health supplement for example that will be around for ages.

What do you think?

If ebooks & health supplements are the route you'd prefer to take then by all means go for it. As you say you've only been here 10 days so now is the best time to change, rather than putting in more working & doing it down the line :)
