Niche, Domain, Keywords, Content, Plugins, In a Nutshell

I have to admit that despite being an IT professional and a former website designer in Bad Old Days, I have been bombarded with some information in the past few days. I managed to get my site up and running by following WA tutorials and Just want to put together a summary of main points learnt until now. Just In case you want to know whats included in the first course quickly. Although I do recommend to go through all the training here at WA.

NICHE:

I decided not to think of earning, rather learning bit was my focus. My site is a test site and I have experimented a lot with it to learn ins and outs of Word Press and plugins. The niche I selected might not make sense to many, But It was my passion and I decided to go for it as I will only focus on learning and did not have to think about the content. Content came naturally and along the way I learnt how to navigate around and do things properly. This way when I start the real project, I will focus on the earning bit as learning part will already be accomplished. I will call this a test project until all my training is finished.

So how to decide a Niche..Things to consider...

1) It should not be too broad.

2) It should not be too narrow that you will not have anything to write regularly about it lets say in about 6 months time. You must be able to write about new things related to your niche at least once every week. I do not agree that you have to be a Master in your niche as you will be learning new things about it as you go along. No One is perfect !!! right?

Domain:

Does not have to be an exact keyword related to your Niche. Focus on your own Brand. .COM is preferred but .ORG and .NET will also do the job. If you want only .COM then do not try to find an exact keyword. All are gone :)

KEYWORDS SEARCH and CONTENT.

1) Start your search as a broad term in your niche then dig down to find one that complies with below rules.

2) Select a key word that has at least 50 traffic hits.

3) A keyword must have a competition of below 200.

4) Most Important thing is the keyword must be grammatically correct. As Google will not index you on what people type in the search. If a keyword does comply with above rules, dig it down and make it grammatically correct. You will find a better keyword with a better competition.

5) use the selected keyword in title, heading and in the first paragraph. do not use it repeatedly in your content. you can use different combinations in menu titles as well.

6) Target every page/post of your site with a different keyword. Search a keyword every time you write a blog post and focus your content around that.

7) Be natural in your content. Do not try to be a scholar. Your readers want to listen from a human being not from a robot.

8) In fact you might be able to discover a whole new niche with keyword search tool. Search for something on Google that might be of interest to you. No one in this world is without any liking or interest. Browse around and find a keyword to search in the keyword tool and Dig it down. You might come up with a new Niche and whole lot of keywords to use that comply with above conditions.

finally you can build up on your interest/niche and if you focus, you will get new ideas about writing a post every week.

PLUGINS:

I had some difficult time adjusting my theme and I am still struggling in this area. Plugins helped a lot and there are still some areas in my website that I need to change. Do not try to overload your website with many. Check the health of your website regularly to see how its doing. Ask the support if you need any technical help. there is a lot to learn in this section.

Finally I want to put forward this idea of a test website around your niche that is your passion. Many will disagree with me but it is not necessary that your passion will also earn you money. Rather use it to learn how to earn, and it will be a smooth ride. In IT, we always test stuff in a lab environment before we put it in production. this way if anything goes wrong we can fix it quickly rather than spending time to learn at a later stage.

Even if your Niche is something that can earn you money, it might not come up with any, and to avoid frustration you might want to take a step back and start from scratch. keep in mind all that you have learnt so far and put it together. Think about your first site as a test project. Who knows you might hit a jackpot this time.

Also Google will establish a trust with your site, and if you have not done it right the first time, It might take a very very long time to gain that trust back. Just One more thing to consider. For example, i was trying to insert some images in the header section yesterday. I tried couple of plugins and wondered why it did not work. Then i bumped on an article advising not to put images on the left side of the page as Google bots start to index the page from left, chances are any content coming after the image will be missed. A great tip and many like this you will discover once you start to experiment.

Please advise how am I doing and leave comments if you want me to change anything or if I am wrong, or if you liked what I have described above.

Thank You for reading.

Blessings:)

You are welcome.

Hi Attiq,
You have done a good job of chronicling your understanding of the material this far.

You have some very good insight for being here such a short time.
Good luck to you

Thank you Sir. I appreciate that.

Excellent blog. Keep up the good work.
Phil

Thanks Phil. I am always looking for improvement. Do you have any suggestions.

I don't know how far along you are with your WA Lessons, but I personally would wait before doing any in depth trainings here. Not that you don't have valuable information to bring to the table, but when you go to a University you don't normally start by presenting your own curriculum.

Every lesson you do here will give you the opportunity to add your own insight to the topic at hand.

Phil

Yes you are right. But I only suggested my way of accomplishing a task and learning new stuff. I believe many new comers do not have previous experience in website building. I thought it might be easy for them to learn if they follow this track. The Curriculum or the target is the same, only thing different is how you want to go about learning it. Just a thought. :)

Thank you

Just to add to my previous reply. I was thinking abt the time when i studied web design at Uni, i did not start my business at the same time when I was at the Uni. I finished learning first then i started earning. The same might apply to people here at WA who obviously come for money.

Attiq, you asked me I answered. I would suggest that everyone finish their WA training first.
If you personally haven't completed that training you don't know what may be different from what you've learned before.

New training is always welcome here, and I know you're looking to share. All I'm saying is see what's available and add to that where and when you can.

Does that make sense?

I Understand that :)

Great advice :)

Thanks.

I am 11 days in as a premium member, I am a getting hung up on the gravatar thing and having to be "graded" on site comments. Did you skip this part? Your blog makes a lot of sense to me, I was thinking I might need to change my domain, but after reading this I won't worry about it. At what point do we insert product links and get approved by affiliates to have those links? Thanks for the post.

Hi,
Thanks for the comments. I will not worry about anything else right now as everything will be covered in the training and I am sure linking with affiliates is on this road. After all thats why we are all here :)
But as far as I know, Your site needs to be ready before you approach them as you are likely to be refused if you do it too early. Slow and steady wins the race. Believe me, website building is an art on its own. Take your time and learn it. this is the foundation of our business and successful people always think ahead and do not jump into something they do not know nothing about. the same thing applies over here. Be patient and once the building blocks are ready, Put them together and see the results.
This is what my thoughts are.
Thank you

If you check my site i have put in a wa affiliate link and a sign up form as well. I am not expecting any thing from it as I am doing it just to learn how these things work. I will test some products from Amazon as well once I have some meat in my site. If they refuse then I would at least know the procedure. In a Nutshell I will try everything that Kyle teaches me in my test website and see how it goes. If it works its a bonus, If it does not then I have some interests in other niches and will come full force targeting this. That way I will have the confidence and the skills to do it and the process will be much quicker and most effective.
Thank you

Makes sense, I need to go in and change some of my content until I am further along in the training.

See you are already working on content once you stopped thinking about making earning. ☺
