I am about to create my very first website by using 'Build My Website'. However, I am not sure whether there are any themes meet my needs. I know on my homepage (very first page
Hi Rachel, allow me to chip in. I think it'll be better to have content right on your homepage as well, because the traffic that you are driving to your website should already be interested in your general subject.
Also, having to get your visitors to type in your searchbox is a bad idea, people are not willing to go through that effort. Rather, you can have categories/tags that visitors can see easily.
Hope that helps.
So this is your very first website? Don't take this the wrong way but from your description it sounds like a bad idea. Sounds like you want your front page to be a search engine which is not good. How are you going to get enough content to return enough relevant results?
You need content on your home page that leads your visitors to the inner pages on your site. If they don't see what they want, you're going to have a very high bounce rate (people leaving via the back button).
Hi Jay, sorry that I probably didn't explain myself very well. I don't intend to make my website work as search engine. I mean when visitors key in their search in my textbox, my website will show them my inner pages which are only relevant to their search. I don't want to dump them the pages which aren't relevant to what they have in mind. So ideally, people would see different content of pages when they key in different entry in my textbox.
So when they get to your home page, the first thing they do is key in a search? I'm trying to understand...
Hi Jay, yes, that's what I would like my website visitors to do. They will key in a search on my first page, and the content of 2nd page will be base on their search.
Thanks for clarifying Rachel. That's a bad idea for a lot of reasons. You'd have to have lots and lots of content to start with and besides how will your visitors know what to search for? Plus, Google will not rank your site because the home page is empty and doesn't have enough content to tell them what your site is about.
Just think about it - why is someone going to search your site when they could just search Google?
It's best to provide information on your home page about what your site is about and you could have a search form in the sidebar or to the top in the menu section kinda like what you see on my website at www.amvsmlm.com
I think the other commenters have pointed out the same thing I'm pointing out.
I really want to help you avoid doing something that won't work to start off with.
Thanks a lot for your advice, Jay. I think you are absolutely right. I will need to rethink how I am going to present my website and how I create the smoother experience for my visitors to get the information they are looking for. Thanks a lot again. :)
could anyone give me the themes with no sidebar on the very first page? I still have trouble to find that kind of theme. :(
Do you really want a theme that never has any side bars or is that just what you want on your homepage? The easiest thing to do is to set up a siterubix site for testing and then you can download themes to check exactly what you are getting and how they fit in with what you want. As I said most themes allow you have a full width template with no side bars. If you look at Woo themes -http://www.woothemes.com/ they have paid and free themes.
There are hundreds of themes available. Many themes will allow you to use one page template with no side bars - which would allow you to do what you want.
I don't know what sort of site you are setting up - but be aware people may not click if you don't give them sufficient reason for doing so - especially if it's a new site.

Hi Rachel--you can have a search box widget on the side and also put a menu along the top under the title--most wordpress themes come with that built in. I use the menu as a kind of broad subject index, with pages related to that subject listed under that menu. If I make too many for it to be comfortable following then I just create a page under that subject called "Index" that people can go to. From there they can click on any subheading subject and go to that page. It works very well indeed.
When you look at your themes, just click on "demo" below the one that appeals to you, and it gives you a slightly more detailed idea of what that theme will provide for you.

I haven't signed up to a premium membership but I just would like to know what the terms and conditions are if I cancel my membership ( let's say after I join for 3 months)? Can
Hi Rachel-Uk,
Just to find out. I have been a premium member for a year. I am
thinking of taking a break for 6 months. Would I be entitled to the same premium annual membership fee offered to me in the first place when I rejoin after 6 months?
@Happysharing: That is something you should confirm with Kyle or Carson in chat or via private message.
As I understand it, Premium membership is locked in for lifetime. So just because you need to leave for a few months should not change the membership fee. However, you are asking about the annual fee. Not sure how that works. I'd say your chances are pretty good but when it comes to membership fees, it is always best to get an official response from K or C. ~Jude
Thanks for all your reply. I am impressed by WA so far and your testimony has given me much more assurance. :)
You can cancel anytime your membership and if you have a domain name that is hosted by WA you have 30 days to move it to a new hosting. Just a piece of advice before you cancel your membership try to explore more maybe it will change your mind....I wish you all the best...Nenita
Been here 6 years and never considered cancelling my memberships. But I do know that they make it very easy for you. Just go to Account Settings and under Billing it's easy as clicking a button if you pay by credit card or as locke131 mentioned you have the option to cancel via Paypal if you chose to pay that way.
Hi Jay. Out of interest. What kind of revenue are makings after having been a premium member for 6 years?
Thanks for sharing!
I'm making a full time income that allows me to not have any other type of employment but still be able to pay my bills and afford nice things, vacations and free time.
I'm not a millionaire but I make more money than most people who work a 9 to 5.
I just want to cancel my premium. not as wealthy affiliate member my are chance of still working on my site as a starter.
Once you cancel premium, you won't be able to go back as starter member. The reason why is because you already have all the access with all the training in the premium
You can cancel at anytime. I'm premium and looked at the account settings and it says this:
"To cancel your membership and stop billing you must login to your PayPal account and cancel the subscription. View the details for your subscription to "Wealthy Affiliate", and click "Cancel Subscription"."
I have done this for other stuff online and can say it is very easy. Look here:

Hi Rachel - PLEASE READ ALL - IMPORTANT INFORMATION] - hate to tell you this but once you join and sign up for premium, there is no getting out!!! You are locked in for life...why do you think we are all still here? I have heard that one gentleman make it out but he now lives in......The Hotel California!!!!
[hope you are old enough to know about that. Otherwise, my joke has no punchline]
OK, there is no contract nor obligation to remain in premium....at all. Make your monthly payments and you remain. To drop, you either cancel via support area or just stop paying
I am new premium to WA. Can you please tell me the main reasons that hold you as premium member?
Sorry, I have never considered cancelling so I have never looked into it. Actually, i'm so impressed with WA that I have gone to the Yearly subscription. It's a great way to save money on your membership.
Sorry,I can't be more help to you. I'm sure someone will come along that has the answer for you.
