When talking about adding adverts, do you mean affiliate links or ads from Google?

Have you applied to join the Google AdSense program?
So, you have received the first piece of code from Google to add to your site? This doesn't mean you have been accepted by Google AdSense.
It simply allows them to inspect your website to see if it is suitable. They will check that you have enough posts, at least 20 and that you have the legal requirements in place (Privacy Policy and Affiliate Disclosure).
Ahh yeah, I was confused what to do with the code it told me to add it somewhere and didn’t make sense to me
You can use a plugin called "Insert Headers and Footers". I can take you through the instructions, but you may decide it's not worth it at this stage. If you don't meet their requirements as I mentioned above, you will be turned down anyway.

Do you mean you want to add affiliate banners + adds etc??
If that is the case, I think you will find that all companies will want to see a completed website in the first instance, before allowing you to use their banners, adds etc. I may be wrong but check it out first before being rejected??

It says to add the code in the plugin on Google Adsense and dosent tell me where to add it, also if I go onto plugins it says not to do anything to it
