I remember when I was just a kid and my brother and I would come home from school. The first thing my mom would ask, "How was school?" In unison, "Good", we'd say. Her following question would be, "What did you learn?", and in unison we'd say, "Nothin". The look she would give was like saying, now either the teachers at that school don't know what the hec their doing, or I have some dumb behind kids. The words never came out her mouth but if looks could talk. I quess she got tired of hearing that we hadn't learned anything, and the school year was halfway over. One day she stopped us before we had a chance to run pass her towards our rooms. Her arms crossed on top of her breast, she said. "You learn something everyday, whether you recognize it or not. Since the two of you have not learned a single thing in that school. Tomorrow I am going to go there and pull you out, both of you. No since in wasting time if ya ain't learning #$." We looked at each other, then at her like, who ever told her that we weren't learning anything. I then remembered the two questions she would ask every single day we come from school. "How was school, and what did you learn?" Not really realizing, or just happy school was done for the day, at the time, I figure she really didn't want to know what it was I learnt that day, and every other day. My brother and I started frantically questioning and yelling out everything we learned. My brother went back as far as kindergarten and said he learned his ABC's. My mother couldn't help but look at him and bust out laughing, being as so he was in the 8th grade. I was in the 7th.

I promised myself that day, from then on I will make it a point of paying attention to what I have learned for that particular day. It sometimes would bother me, unconsciously stating I learned nothing in school for the day. Especially, knowing how much I enjoyed reading books. I enjoyed my history class and learning about the railroads and what not.

That day when my lightbulb went on in my head was the day I learned that, something is to be learnt everyday. I made it my own saying because, of course you learn something everyday. You could have learned the name of the guy who lived next door. Just saying, so for me, I say something is to be learned everyday, and there's my pick of what I would like to learn that day. I enjoy learning about things that have purpose and are powerfully beneficial so that I in return will help to benefit another. I am A Life-long-learner on purpose.

Great! Thanks for sharing. I think your mom was a very wise woman. And congratulations to you for a lesson well learned. Yes, we are learning all of the time, but as you say we will benefit a lot more if we choose to learn the things that inspire us with passion and purpose.
Cheers
