Making Money While In Egypt
I just got back to the states from a trip I took to Egypt over Thanksgiving.
I'm pretty sure I'll be recovering from jet lag for at least a few days now, and I figured to post this while in that haze.
My health & fitness blog is a little over a year old now. It was started in mid-October 2020.
I've been posting a new article to my site at least 3 days a week since then.
When I arrived back home from Egypt, it was very nice to see income from a variety of sources.
Affiliate Sales
On Thanksgiving, two affiliate sales came in.
One came from the main affiliate product I promote.
When I say "promote", I just mean that I've written a number of reviews from different angles and keywords promoting the same product.
It's a home workout program that inspired me to build my website in the first place.
The next sale that also came in on Thanksgiving was for an exercise bike, from a an article review on "best exercise bikes on Amazon."
What's interesting is, that while the bike was $300, my commission is far smaller, because it was purchased directly through Amazon.
Still though, this was a light bulb moment, because I recently decided to move away from reviewing Amazon products.
Then I thought to myself, there are plenty of higher-priced health & fitness products to review from Amazon that still have the potential to bring in a nice income. So I'll continue down that route, and explore other product possibilities.
Advertising Income
Another stream of income that has been small but consistent is with Google Adsense and Media.net. These are the two advertisers I use on my site. When someone clicks on an ad, I earn money.
So, even if it's a few cents here and there, that money adds up, and the more traffic that comes to my blog, the higher that income will be. Some clicks pay a penny or two, while other clicks pay a dollar or more.
One thing I noticed when I returned from my trip is that Google is starting to rank my articles and more and more searches are beginning to come in from Google, and not just Bing and Yahoo. This is a huge win, cause I know how hard it is to become noticed by the king of search engines.
Medium.com Income
My final stream of income is from Medium.com. If you haven't utilized this website, I think it's a great way to start bringing in extra income for very little effort on your end.
Medium.com already has a huge readership. All you have to do is sign up. What I do, is import each one of my blog articles into the site, and that's all there is to it.
There are already measures in place to ensure that you aren't penalized by Google for having duplicate content on the internet.
One great thing about Medium is that I direct people back to my blog anyway. Also, a lot of your articles will rank higher in Google from Medium because it's a high authority website.
Depending on how many people read your articles on Medium, determines your payout. Medium pays you once a month.
Making Money In Egypt In Summary
I think one thing I need to remember is to just let things be...especially when it comes to SEO and blogging. While I've been in Egypt for over a week, I really had no choice BUT to let things be.
When I'm here at home in Chicago though, and the reality of life kicks back in, it's easy to get caught up in checking your stats constantly.
It's easy to get discouraged because things aren't flowing as quickly as you want them to or you're not making as much as you'd like as fast as you'd hoped.
But the SEO game and strategy are long-term. It was never meant to be a quick fix. Build a foundation, build upon it, and stay consistent, and eventually, you'll start to see the rewards from your efforts.
On that note, I'm gonna make myself a cup of coffee and chill out with my dog the rest of the day. Thank you for reading!

Medium... sounds very interesting my friend!
How was your time in Egypt? The last time I visited was not the best time to do so, but I believe things have settled down a bit now!
Are the taxi drivers still as crazy as they used to be?? All drivers for that matter in and around Cairo!!
Happy to hear you made it back in one piece my friend, have a great day!!:-))
The time there in Egypt was amazing! So glad I went - I was nervous also cause I wasn’t sure how safe it was going to be but I’ve heard in recent years it’s been very safe. And it did feel that way. When did you go? What made it feel it wasn’t the best time to do so?
Yes the driving in general was crazy! we took Ubers in Cairo which made it so much easier to get around but the driving in general is still nuts! Couldn’t do Uber in Luxor or Aswan though. Mostly walked around or took horse carriage taxis.
Thanks for the comment - really glad we made it back in one piece too!
