Cutting Out Distractions While Blogging - Save An Hour Of Time

I realized today as I finished writing my blog article, that I would have saved over an hour of time had I not allowed distractions to get in the way.

I'm all about saving time. However, I spent a good amount of it responding to messages via text and FB messenger. I also kept noticing updates on my phone. It could be the weather or a YouTube video posted by a channel I follow.

All of this stuff could wait. And I bet my blog article would have been even more focused had I just kept going without responding to external stimulants.

It's not easy to just write for 2 hours straight, but I'm sure there are better ways to take breaks. Texts, messages, and phone alerts are more of distractions.

We live in a world filled with push notifications. Even Alexa lets me know when a package has arrived from Amazon.

So, if there's a lesson here...

I think next time before I write, I'll set my phone to "do not disturb" mode and see how that changes things. Or maybe I'll place it across the room. If that alone saves a full hour of time, then it's worth it.

Sounds like a great idea.

Thanks - there have been some hiccups along the way but making progress

That wonderful news. Keep moving forward.

I remember Nathaniel I think talking about this in a slightly different way. He suggested that we could try to turn distractions into positive learning moments. So instead of watching tv you could watch YT on a 'How To do....' video. If you are going to be on FB do it as part of a research process in better understanding your niche or interacting with masterminds. It's a shift that I have found simple and useful.

i agree and think that's a great way to look at it - a positive learning moment - i pretty much only watch informational videos or audios early in the day. At night time I'll spend my last few hours on Netflix watching movies before bed. The distractions early in the day though are mainly from me noticing my phone light up. It's a distraction just to see an alert lol.

Sounds like you know how to solve the issue lol

We’ll see tomorrow how it goes :)

Cool

The best thing is put on a timer om your phone to make your time more productive

Happy that you reflected and you are now taking action

Wishing you success throughout your journey

Timer is a great idea - thanks!

A great idea, Paul, but I am an "on-call" locksmith, and keep my phone on most times. Only at night do I leave it off since I can no longer drive at night due to night blindness!

Jeff

Oh totally understand - I keep it on with me most of the time as well - but I am gonna try this experiment only when blogging

I believe there are times I could do this as well, but it would be late in the evening, Paul! I might give it a shot!

So true, that happens to me all the time and the best thing to do is stay focused

Yeah - I didn't realize what a time stealer it was until today!
