100 Blog Posts Later - What I've Learned

I'm about to hit 6 months of writing in my health & fitness blog. I've learned a lot since I started, and I treat this like a job now.

Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays are writing days.

I'm proud of the fact that I've come this far. I mean, 100 blog posts is quite a lot. And to be honest, I don't know for sure if it's exactly 100. But it's definitely right around there. At this point, I've overcome the initial excitement of writing, and I'm VERY glad I chose a topic that I'm truly passionate about. I'd suggest to anyone beginning their writing journey to choose their topic wisely.

I'm sure this isn't the case for everyone, but my brain is mush at the end of a 3-hour writing session. I can make it through for sure, but it really helps that I'm passionate about health & fitness. These articles would take far longer to write if I didn't know much about the topic.

So here are some updates I've noticed after consistently writing for 6 months.

Some Money Trickling In

Just a little money has trickled in so far, and this has been in the form of a couple of Amazon sales and Google Adsense income. What's interesting is March was a month where clicks began to grow like they hadn't before.

Now, the Amazon sales were NOT from products I wrote about, but from people having clicked over to Amazon and then made a purchase of something completely unrelated to health and fitness. This sale was a woman's sweater.

These new clicks coming in are exciting. I have no idea how they'll grow, but my guess is they'll become more consistent.

New Comments From Organic Traffic

It was nice the other day seeing a comment come in from a total stranger who stumbled upon my site asking me about one of the products I wrote a review on. I replied as soon as I saw the comment come in.

Hopefully, this becomes a regular occurence.

More Traffic Coming In

I've recently dedicated myself to learning the ins and outs of Pinterest, a platform I never thought I'd attempt to tackle. I figured it would be worth learning while Google takes its sweet time showing my articles to people.

I'm loving what I've learned so far, and as I become more acquainted with the platform, I'm noticing more organic traffic begin to trickle in, and the duration of time people are spending on my website is getting longer. Sometimes I'll see a user who spends more than 20 minutes on the site, which is really nice.

These are stats over the course of the last 7 days.

I've Become A Better Writer

I look back at the articles I was writing in October of 2020 when I started this journey, and I sort of cringe. It's so interesting to look at your own writing and realize how much better you are only 6 months later.

I'm so much more focused on finding answers that will help the reader than I was at the beginning of this journey. When I started, I was just so excited to write. It was this whole new project.

But now, I just write to help others. I feel that I've found a pretty good balance between sharing knowledge and still having my personality shine in my writing.

Should I Outsource Articles?

I've thought about this. The amount of time I'd free up is pretty insane. But I haven't made a decision on this quite yet. Maybe I'll let my blog hit 150 articles before I decide to start outsourcing some of the writing.

Or maybe I'll wait until I have a steady stream of visitors and income. Maybe I'll ask some pro bloggers what they'd suggest. This is a thought at the moment but outsourcing some of the writing is a very real possibility in the near future. I guess it really depends on how things materialize.

Where Is This Site Going?

This is a good question. I've got this really strange feeling that come July of 2021, things are gonna start to happen with traffic that I can't even fully conceptualize quite yet.

The amount of writing that I do is adding up like crazy. It's only a matter of time when Google finally decides this website is totally legit and decides to start sending a flood of visitors over. That's my guess anyway.

Bing seems to like me more right now. I'm cool with that. Pinterest seems like an awesome method to bring in new users, and I'm seeing some social traffic begin to trickle in as well.

I really don't know what it feels like yet to have a steady stream of traffic and income coming into my blog.

But I guess what matters is that I started the journey, and I've kept going, and I have no intention of stopping. Can't wait for whatever comes next. Thanks for reading!
