Not Enough Time

In the month that I have been here, I have found that one of the best things that WA can offer us is an education. Before I joined, I knew absolutely nothing, and I mean NOTHING, about online marketing. And in one month, I have learned so much, and I realize that there is so much more to learn before I can reap the benefits of this education. I have learned that time management is a huge part of this program. At least it is for me. I do have a full time job, which, I am lucky enough to recently been offered a position to work from home. So I find myself multitasking throughout the day, trying to learn about WA, trying to write articles for the various article directories and work on my full time position at the same time. The problem with that - it doesn't work. It's not enough time.

I have realized that I learn more when I spend an hour or two when I watch a webinar, or when I spend 2 or 3 hours going step by step through the courses. (even repeating them again). It is not productive when I skip around, get interrupted by work, move on to something else, get interrupted again, realize I never finished what I first started, and then move on again.

Multitasking is great when you know what you are doing. When you are an expert in your field, when you have been doing the same tasks over & over, and can do them without thinking.

Learning a new field should not be introduced into your multi-tasking routine. You need time, concentration and an interruption free zone where you can dedicate yourself to the task at hand.

Unfortunately, in my life, time is a commodity. So this week I go back to one of the first lessons I learned here at WA. I will change one of my non-financial goals, and relate it back to time. The time I want to dedicate a day to just working on my training here.

A few things which I will remember, as I continue my lessons, to help me stay on track, perhaps might help you as well.

  1. Allocate time to learn - HUGE time management issue for me.
  2. I will set that time up so as to be spent without family and without work interruptions.
  3. When reading through lessons and/or tutorials & blog I will keep a note pad next to me to write down some of the LINKS which I want to go back to. (I click links and forget to go back to where I was!)
  4. The same goes for articles and blogs. I will write down the name of an article or blog I see, and search for them later.
  5. I will allocate time specifically for writing articles & content.
These may be a few simple steps to follow, however they are part of a core plan which we need. If not, we get lost, things are missed and we just end up doing double the work.

This should be compulsory reading incorporated into the WA Certification Course... me now joking not, me serious this time!!

Thanks! I like to re-read some of the courses to refresh my memory, it would help me to remember my own words at times as well! :)

Real good advice - need to learn to take it ! I am sooo good at jumping around all the time
thanks for posting

Thank you for your time. Thank all of you, my ducks are all over the place, hard to catch em. gotta focus once again thanks and take care

Focus. What a powerful word. One to add to the top of my screen to stare at all day. Good luck focusing and gathering your ducks!

Time seems to be the biggest issue for us women. But being women we rule at time management. Never Give Up.

Yes! You are right about that. I used to have even less time when my children were younger. So this SHOULD be a breeze. I just need to restructure. Thanks!

Managing time is an issue for most time and you really do have to allocate specific time for your activities. It's much better to get up 30 minutes earlier a day and work uninterrupted for 30 minutes than it is trying to do 30 minutes around other jobs.

Good luck

Beverley

Thanks Beverley! I've actually been reading quite a few of your blogs and learning from them as well. You seem to have a handle on this and have experience quite a bit within WA. Thanks for constantly sharing!

Very valuable management skills. Yes write things down and create a plan. Today I will "complete Lesson 2" share a blog or article. I also have a crazy life with work. Not that is right but sometimes I get nothing done with WA for days even two weeks (just to much demand). I need job for bills and I love WA so I don't worry, I know I will get back into the grove.

Looking after yourself is very important. Yessharon is also very work related. Has some good info as well. Important to remember to enjoy and well as achieve.

Thanks! Very wise words. Enjoyment is an important word for us all here. We need to remember that it is up as to which direction this education takes us. Any undue pressure or frustration comes directly from ourselves. I am here to enjoy this new experience as well! Good to remember that. Thanks!

Very good ideas. :)

Thanks! Good luck learning here!

Hi Producechick, I relate to you on the time management issue. However, would it not be better to focus on tasks while managing time. And in that sense manage tasks rather than time. They both are very much related but managing tasks is easier and also rewarding than managing time.

For example, instead of saying I will write an article on 'Loosing Weight in 30 Days' for the next three hours; it might be better to say I will work on the first draft of my article till it is done for the rest of the evening. If you are not finished you will continue to work on the article until it is finished.

This suggestion is assuming; writing the article is the next most important thing you need to do. That means you work from a to do list...rather than chasing time.

I hope this makes sense, what do you think?

Absolutely makes sense. Thanks. Focusing on tasks is a huge part of what I am trying to accomplish, and I have to do that with proper time allocation. Being, only focus on that task at hand, rather than try to get it done while working on other things and trying to learn other things at the same time. I need to learn to take it one step at a time, and I have to try to stop rushing. I love your quote "work from a list, rather than chasing time". It's perfect for my situation.

It is hard to balance a ful time job and an IM business. You have made a lot of good points on how to accomplish this. For more tips check out this WA training.

Awesome information on your link. Thanks. I had read it before, and I'm glad I read it again now. Thanks! You have a great way of putting things into an organized perspective.
