I have had a problem with one of my sites today. It wouldn't load and when it did it was very slow. Asked the helpdesk to help and they fixed it by removing plugins including Je

Yeah i just got the heads up about it. Now what, to do. Oh dear.
Also, BOO HOO I still cannot login from here.

Contact support and they will remove it!

Just found out about this today. Thanks for the heads up. I'd better figure out if I want certain modules from it or find individual solutions and ditch it entirely then.

Thank you for sharing this information.... have a lovely weekend.. AM

The folks at Central Command had to fix my site today. And there I was about to kick me laptop. It got away wiv' it my the skin of it's teeth but I'm waiting. One false move an' it gets it.

Now that plugins gone we can all get on and do some work without lloking over our shoulders expecting it to crash again. Wealthy Affilites 1 - Jetpack rubbish Plug-ins 0

Thanks for all the info ...I decided to Delete old chumy! Jetpack!

Sorry folks. Seems like I've opened a can of worms!

No apology necessary. It's better that other Members know about this "PoS", call it as you see it, huh, Jim (@techhound)? :P If you type JetPack into the search bar, you'll see it's been causing issues for other Members for a long while now. Rich.

I know a lot of Members love it for "stat-watching" but it's bug-riddled 14-in-1 bloatware that puts an enormous load on a site by making a huge amount of unnecessary calls out to WordPress .COM I know it's incompatible with a large number of other plugins and also a great many themes. I've also seen it trash siterubix sites as there's no FTP to delete it if it plays up. If you want to see what a "resource hog" it is, install GoDaddy's P3 http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/p3-profiler/ I personally would never use it, especially as Google uses site-loading speed as one of its metrics. Sorry! Rich.

I had assumed that as it was written by the people behind Wordpress.com it would be safe to install it on Wordpress.org blogs.
Seems I was mistaken!

I use it and with no problems. If I have to take it down that means my social shares will be zeroed. My site stats i.e. how many times links are clicked will no longer be available to me along with other cool easy plugins that work out of the box.

OK deleted jetpack :( now who knows a decent social plugin with the main four G+ FB TW PIN. Plus can you set up analytics to show links clicked on your pages.

I use Social Sharing Toolkit. It is totally editable for follow, and you can also keep track of clicks.

I have Jetpack and I have 0 issues with it. I did not activate each available item within Jetpack. If some are having issues, it may be because of the theme. I have a paid theme and really, I have no issues at all.

Remember it is very important to make sure that you do not enable your Wordpress site to self update. It is very tricky and when you add any plugins to your Wordpress site, that's why you should also check reviews before installing. It is a real pain when you activate a plugin and your whole site goes down.

But, until today, I've heard nothing but praise for Jetpack, in particular, so how would I have known not to install it?

YUK! I'll have to change them all now. ~Marion

This is exactly what I have asked support today. I installed Jetpack because when I asked as advised to get feedback on my site someone said it had a better comments system thatn wordpress. so i installed it and ever since then I have had problems signing in to my site to the extent that i cannot get i at all and support have had to uninstall jetpack for me. Why arent we just told upfront in an early on lesson what we should and shouldnt use. How can i be paying a subscription to find out some things by happen chance? I am a Premium member and i have just spotted a comment by Carson below that this level of membership gets protected against such a plugin - but that obviously is not my experience. And i note that this conversation I am in was started 2 yrs ago!

All you have to do is type Jetpack into the question box to find other people's experiences. If you want to do something that's outside the lessons you need to do your own due dilegence. ~Marion

There are 1000's of plugins out there that are great, and many that are really harmful to your website. If you attempt to install a plugin that is not allowed it won't work and we'll disable it for you.

Keeping a list of "blacklisted" plugins would be a tough job and the list would be really long. Instead, all Premium members at WA get protected against plugins like this automatically. We'll keep your site free of things that can hurt your rankings, and harm your hard work!

Carson, thanks for your help with this.
As all the plugins I installed on the blog in question have been disabled.should I re-enable them one at a time to try to pin down the bad one?
They can't all be bad, surely.
In fact Jetpack was recommended by Jay in a recent Wabinar and most of the others are, I thought, also recommended as part of a standard Wordpress set-up.

Which plugins are you actually wanting to use out of the Jetpack? Jay only uses the Stats and Contact Form.

The problem with the Jetpack is that it connects out to WordPress on every single visit. That's how the stats work. This not only can slow your site down, it requires WordPress servers to be running optimally. If WordPress servers had trouble connecting with your site, then your site would come to a screeching halt.

One "rule of thumb" that we like to work by is that any plugin that connects to another website is potentially harmful. Your site now relies on that external website to function.

Google Analytics is what we suggest for tracking, and there are many different contact forms that you can use out there.

There is a bunch of stuff that is included within the Jetpack that are not going to do much for you at all.

The fact that Jetpack requires you to have a WordPress account means that your site is connecting out to WordPress every single hit, and that can really be a problem.

Carson

I think most of the Jetpack modules are loaded by the default. As far as I know there isn't an option to disable them, but I might be wrong.
Jay mentioned about the Mobile module as being one he uses along with Stats and Contact form.
So from what you are saying. I assume that plugins like WPZonBuilder will also cause problems as they draw data from Amazon.

I am new member but I found this old post very useful because I was checking for Jetpack reviews after I read that WordPress was asking for a separate account with them in order to use that plugin.

Thanks to PierWalkerSOS for starting the thread
..and of course thanks to Carson I can now understand how important is to not rely on "external" plugins like this one.
And I can clearly understand what WA offers within the hosting.
That is so much more than that. ..!!

thanks carson, i just installed aioseo in one of my sites, is that a good one to use?

Is there a way to stop the list of Tags appearing at the bottom of Wordpress posts?

It's theme dependent, but you probably have a Tag Cloud widget in the footer. If you go to Appearance > Widgets and check the footer area you should be able to delete it. :) Rich.

Thanks Rich. I'll try that.

I often use the free Flexibility 3 theme, but at the moment it has a problem with the latest version of WP 3.6 that prevents the theme's Option Panel displaying. This can be got

There is no possibility that you can edit/develop your free SiteRubix site, because we don't have access with the DNS.

Hi Dave,
If it's a theme file and you've uploaded the theme, you maybe able to edit via the theme editor.
BUT be warned. If you break the code and can no longer access the site as it returns an error. You'll have to forget about the site and move on, if I recall support doesn't offer support for siterubix site.
I could be wrong.

Thanks Craig. Maybe the easy answer is to use another theme. I do like Flexibility 3 though.

I founds this today: Google Hot Trends Visualize

It shows,

Saw this similar mind boggling, multi- colored boxes of words and didn't have a clue until I started clicking on it. Lot's of work to find trends, when they used to be in a priority list and you just click on the word to find articles written about the trend. Google is always trying new things. Just another test to analyze responses.

hmm.. I'd say this is just a gimmickish thing. I don't see the usefulness by throwing everchanging words around. The hot searches page tells a bit more than this in less annoying way. =))
