Spam emails to look out for

Hi again Folks

I want to give people here at WA a heads-up on spam emails that may hit our website email accounts from time to time.

Now that we have our websites up and running, we will probably have an email account or two set up, specifically for our websites.....something like

contact@ourwebsite.com

support@ourwebsite.com and so on and so forth.

So we are cannon fodder for these spammers and also for online bots that trawl the internet for newly published email accounts.

I am no different to anyone else and have recieved a share of these since I set up my own emails early on last year. Last month another of these beauties landed in my inbox and it really looked the part...it promised me x y and z etc etc. There is an old saying that goes something like " If it looks to be good to be true, then it probably is"

It promised me monetary rewards if I would let some of their customers and clients publish their material on my website.

All I had to do was send them a Paypal invoice and I would get paid within 24-48 hrs.

BOOM....they now had access to my Paypal a/c and would then probably hack my account for bank and credit card details etc etc.

Needless to say, I didnt respond or neither did I click on any of the links that they included in their email.

I have enclosed a screenshot of the email, so you will see how professional and cunning these artists are. As I say, it's just a quick post for all here at WA, both new and existing members that we need to be on our guard at all times.

Cheers and best wishes

PB

Hey, Phil.
Always proceed with double and triple caution.
Check everything in the URL do everything.

I lost the value in my test account in it's entirety through something that looked completely real like you mention. Yes, it was through mail.

"Blockchain announces protocol to claim your Bitcoin Gold."

All the parameters, all the right logos...almost makes you think if the real company is actually a part of this.

Instead of receiving my Bitcoingold, I was relieved of everything else that I had in that account.

I Had Bitcoin
I Had Bitcoin Cash, and
I had Ethereum

My fellow WAU members. Play safe out there.

Thanks Phil.

Paul.

That seems to be the best way to deal with these
Once deleted, they cannot do any harm,

Hi Phil,

I haven't received anything like this but will make sure to check if it's one like this. I never accept anything anyway, I know what places I have to deal with.

We have to be careful!

Thanks for sharing and bringing it to our attention, it's important information.

I use Google reCaptcha for anti-spam. Please don't confuse it with the recently hijacked plugin Captcha, as this is not a plugin. I use it on a number of sites. You'll need a secret key a site key from Google, and it takes about 5 minutes to set up. More info here. https://developers.google.com/recaptcha/

Hi there
Thanks for this info
We all need some plugin like this
it would make our accounts more secure and give us some peace of mind
Cheers PB

One differentiation is that it is not a plugin and does not have additional code injected into your site, nor does it add to page load speeds.

Hi there
Thanks again for this additional info.
We just need to keep an eyeout for these intrusions
Thanks again

I pop these over to Kyle and also dispose of them on my account!

1

Hi there
good idea
it's one way of disposing of these
perhaps Kyle can report them to some regulator
Thanks again
