Listen More Than You Speak

While watching a video seminar the presenter made a very true statement. Listen More Than You Speak. Or In their own words, I Have Two Ears and One Mouth, I Listen Two Thirds of the Time and Speak One Third of it.

Even before I studied Psychology, I was always fascinated how people interacted with one another. Some people though thankfully not all, never let another person finish what they are saying.

A very good example is if you watch a program like the News or a Talk Show. At least 95 percent of the time, a Question is Asked by the Presenter. Even before the Recipient has a chance to Finish Answering, they get Interrupted.

I have been on the receiving end of this during a phone conversion, before the other person allows you to finish they rudely interrupt you in mid sentence. At has gotten to where if I receive a phone call, and someone does this, I just put the phone down, thankfully that does not happen often.

This is a typical problem with call Centers, they do not take no for an answer and before you finish answering a question, they just asked you how convenient you just get interrupted.

It really does pay to listen more and speak less when you are interacting with people, while you are having a conversion. Another good habit is when you are not totally sure, what the other person has said, is to repeat the question back to them.

This really does show two things, we have understood what was being asked and we are interested in what the person is saying. Interpersonal and Listening Skills are great communicators and so is body language.
