Humble means "modest; without an excess of pride." A person who brags about being humble may have too much pride in being humble, to actually be humble.

Where do you fit into this definition of a humble person?

Perhaps these three signs of a genuinely humble person will help you determine your own level of humility. Humble people:

  • Don't go around saying they're humble. In fact, it is said that if you aspire to humility the first step is “to realize that one is proud",
  • Talk less and listen more,
  • Choose being at peace over being right.

Do any of these points describe you?

If you are still unable to identify with any of these characteristics of being a humble person, perhaps it's simply because you're not! And that's OK... we are not all wired the same way and we don't all operate with the same work/life ethics. But we're all here at Wealthy Affiliate and that means every single one of us on this platform has at least one thing in common with everyone else. In my opinion this is HUMILITY.

Why do I think we are all humble people here? Because we appreciate others. This is the easiest way to gain a sense of humility. If you see someone doing better than you, or someone being good at something, you give them a compliment for their work. This is showing humility. You understand how others are different from you and you learn something from everyone you meet. Isn't this what being part of WA is all about?

If you're still not convinced that you are indeed a very humble person, why not take a look at the psychological benefits that being humble provides and maybe you will strive towards humility.

8 Psychological Benefits of Being Humble:

  • Soothes the soul. Humble people are able to cope with anxiety better and talk about their feelings,
  • Excellence in leadership. Humble leaders are not only better liked, but they are also more effective in leading a team,
  • Higher self-control,
  • Better work performance,
  • Higher grades,
  • Less prejudice,
  • More helpful,
  • Better relationships.

Thank you WA for the opportunity to be humble and connect with like-minded people, because I must say - "Humility, it sure looks good on YOU!!"

Great post
If only we could all be humble. Jim

Thank you Jim!

This is a great post! My Dad always said we should be humble. I have never heard anyone else advise that like he did. I don't ever say I am humble out loud but I try to be and remember his advice.

I am very uncomfortable around arrogant people...perhaps that is Dad's influence in me. I admire confidant people but not arrogant people.

I agree that WA helps us all appreciate others.

Jessica

You have a very wise Dad, Jessica! 🙂

My parents taught me the same, that arrogance was only going to get me so far in life, if not anywhere.. unfortunately, I haven't always followed being humble as much as I would have liked in the past but it's not that hard really. I now only surround myself with people who have just as much time for me as I do for them and this to me is a good start to displaying humility.

WA makes it easy too! Which is why I felt compelled to write and share this post. I am pleased you enjoyed reading it! 😁
