Cats are amazing!

So, today our indoor cat, Cashmere, got outside and proceeded to make it into the next door neighbor's fenced yard and proceeded to make himself at home on the premises. Since there is a chance he could make his way to the unfenced roadway, I went to the fence to call him back home.

Well, he did come running over the fence to me but couldn't remember how he got where he was, and how to come back home. He kept meowing to me, and trying to see if he could dig under the fence. I just couldn't see a way to get him back home. I called my neighbor but he wasn't home.

Just when I was totally at a loss, help came to the rescue! We also feed a bunch of slightly feral outdoor cats, and one of our favorite cats we call Oreo because of his black and white coloring.

Well, Oreo, who was hanging out in our yard, saw what was happening. He rushed to the neighbor's fence, squeezed himself through the various gates and made his way over to Cashmere.

He then proceeded to give Cashmere a talking to (I think) about street smarts, and then went over to a pile of lumber that was near to the fence, climbed up and jumped over the fence into our yard. Of course, when Cashmere saw this he followed him climbed up and jumped over the fence!

Oreo then hung around our yard until I led Cashmere safely inside, looking very pleased with himself, stayed awhile and then sauntered off to his next adventure.

Hooray for Oreo!

Good Morning Pat,

I am a big cat lover myself so I enjoyed your story very much.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

Yaaay. FWIW. Animals are "dumb" because they can't speak human languages.

Cats are "taking" ...our old cat named Dora was lost for a week and when she came back home she was meowing about 15 minutes to tell us where she has been and what happened to her :)

Thanks for an adorable story. Animals...and especially cats...are so fascinating to watch. We can learn a lot by observing how they get what they want and need. Debbie

Cats really are amazing and they can communicate in ways we'll never understand. Great share!

I like that Oreo is passing it forward

Mine just brought his "toy" a carpet strip that he carries around to me to show what a mighty hunter he is. Amazing indeed!

Cats ARE amazing when they are not being pains in the butt!

I've been hearing this often now of animals helping their animal buddies. I think it's so fascinating and amazing. I had an outside stray cat I used to care for named Oreo as well. She had a sister that was mostly black with a white bottom half face and we called her Sylvester like from Looney Tunes lol. I'm glad Cashmere is back home :)

Thanks for sharing, Pat.
