Winning Gold - You Can too!

Last night the Women’s 100m final was run. While Covid restrictions have prevented the assembling of crowds the Japanese made up the pump with a dazzling light and sound show.

Although my local Trinidad and Tobago girl, Michelle Ahyee, just missed the final cut, I was particularly glued to the TV because other Caribbean ladies were in the final. You could not miss the 3 Jamaicans - Elaine, Shelly-Ann and Sherikah – not an ounce of fat on their bodies piping hot in their national Jamaican colours, black, green and gold.

From start to finish the race was a sizzler with Elaine taking the gold in 10.61, the second-fastest time over the distance since the 10.49-second world record set by Flo Jo (Florence Griffith Joyner) from the US. Shelly-Ann and Sherikah came in 2nd and 3rd with 10.74s and 10.76s times/

Elaine was not a phenom back in 2014. She actually was considered pretty average and not one of the big guns. She was often taunted until her coach pulled her aside and said that she could become great if she was committed and believed in herself. She shrugged off the taunts and set her mind to the task eventually winning gold in Rio in 2016.

What was pretty amazing is that Elaine was not sure she would be able to compete at all since just one month before she had been struggling with her Achilles heel. An injury that has plagued her for the last 5 years.

What stood out for me is something my high school coach taught me. He said “No matter how difficult circumstances may be, the best athletes rise above them"'.

Lesson Learned

Quite similarly despite the challenges, you may face in the pursuit of your online business. Remember to always

• Believe in yourself,
• Stay focused
• Do not allow anyone to take away your shine
• Find supporters
• Have a mentor or coach
• Keep reassessing your plan to achieve your goals

Keep doing these things and you too will see your glory and win gold.
