Ten Commandments to become a WAG (Wealthy Affiliate God)
While I pour through the WA platform, one thing is very clear from all the people at the top. They are deeply knowledgeable, passionate, willing to share and committed. So if you plan to sit amongst the WAGs (Wealthy Affiliate Gods) you better bring your A game or go home. So I’ve developed my 10 Commandments which I intend to live by to become the best freaking WAG possible. Here they are.....:
1) You Shall Know your Niche currency
Research your targeted niche thoroughly. Understand not only how to address the pain points of your customers but also how to leverage their opportunities Once you identify your brand you need to understand your market competition, costs, risks and profitability. Then test your brand to establish proof of your concept. This last step of establishing a Minimum Viable Brand (MVB) before going head and feet first into full brand development/ launch might just save you your shirt.
2) Thou Shall Make a Plan
How many times do you need to hear it. Plan. Plan. Plan. If you fail to plan you plan to fail. So once you understand your brand then you need to make a plan on how you are going to design, fund, build your website, communicate and bring your brand to market. One important part of the plan that is often overlooked is how is your brand development to be funded. A close look at your numbers and projections will serve you well. And if you don't know ask for help.
3) Be authentic
Always ensure that the advice and support you are giving is genuine. Do not overstate things (like suggesting that WA is a get rich plan) or attempt to hoodwink people, in a bid to earn a quick buck. You might trick some unsuspecting people but you will only ultimately lose trust around your brand and within this community. And you don't want that. So be honest and transparent with pertinent information always.
4) Strive to Be an Authority
Be seen as an Influencer by your understanding and ability to competently articulate well everything relevant about your niche and more. Be it customer's pain points right through to being able to recommend affordable yet innovative solutions that are effective. If you don't know then don't be afraid to say you don't know - recommend alternative trustworthy sources. And remember that you got to keep up your learning to be always relevant and not get stale.
5) Have Ethics
Have integrity so that your relationships can be built on trust. These are the relationships that will endure into the long term and provide recurring benefits. Remember the community is only as strong as its weakest link.
6). Get Recognized
Be it a website, blog, interview, post, video, article or all of the above you need to get your brand and opinion out there. The bigger your community and audience the better. Speak your mind. You will be surprised at how many people are eager to hear what you have to say. Always stress quality and share freely your opinion with others.
7. Build an Unbeatable Community
Understand the various types of affiliate marketing structures and seek out those relationships that yield the highest value and performance for you. Not every relationship is a match made in heaven but if you approach it with an attitude to support, openly discuss, share ideas and to be flexible with options presented it is more likely that your relationships will turn into strong coalitions.
8. Ongoing learning
Not only should you be aware of all the affiliate marketing structures, theory, strategies and so on but you should also keep an eagle eye out that will anticipate market trends in this fast changing sector. By equipping yourself with the right knowledge early will better allow you to take a market advantage long before anyone else has time to catch up.
9. Always keep looking at your data
This is critical. Develop a dashboard that tracks key performance indicators. Your data could include costs (site development, customer acquisition, CPC, ad spend and conversion), commissions, website (e.g. up time, loading speed, time spent on page) and affiliates (e.g number, activity and retention). By closely tracking the numbers you will be better able to efficiently direct your budget spend. Further, a better case can be made to investors and key stakeholders for support.
10. Be innovative
You always want to be distinctive to get noticed and stand out from the crowd. Understand the gaps in the market where it is being undeserved. Exploit the shortcomings of your competitors. And always continuously try to introduce novel approach that will excite your customers, turning them into advocates for your brand.
