Reflection Time

Old Codger's old '96 Falcon Wagon with one of the obstacles it had to face.

In order to reach where I am now, I've had to travel on many different roads. My love of adventure and exploring the unknown have taken me to places many others have not seen.

There were times when I was on tracks that few had traversed, in an outback wilderness. I'd made it there - and I'd made it back - along with friends who shared the journey with me. There were also times when I cruised along a freeway alone, watching the scenery flash by me, not a care in the world. Those days have gone.

Now is a time to pause and reflect: What lies on the road ahead?

Into the unknown. No All Wheel Drive or differential lock. No snorkel. Standard road tyres. What lies ahead? Will I be out of my depth? Will there be a hole there to swallow the Old Codger and the old Falcon? Just the tip of the aerial showing? Bubbles?

Now was the time to put driving skills I'd learned over the years into effect.

Slow, steady progress. Low gear. Not a mad rush that might be briefly spectacular but that might flood the engine and leave me stranded. No mobile phone reception out here. Miles for Jessie and me to walk for help. Reversing backwards to where I'd started from was not an option. That little ding in the tailgate was where I'd tried it before, not seeing where I was going.

Now, because I'm writing this, you know that I've faced the unknown, decided to keep going forward, took a calculated risk and reached firm ground. Onwards!

You don't have to follow the same road that I have to get where you want to go. It may not be the same place I'm heading for. Find your destination and progress steadily towards it. There are many maps here to show you the way and many friends to help you if you ever get stuck.

Ahh, George! You just brought back some good memories of my own of a few years ago when I went with my kids and my older brother to our old swimming hole that we went to as kids.
It was quite an adventure and all I'll say is I'm glad my brother took over with the driving. It was a tipsy, kinda scary ride, although veerrry slow, lol. But, it was one of the best days I've ever had and the kids had a blast.
Love the metaphors, inspiring as always, and thanks for sharing! :)

Thanks for smile and reminder. Very true- reverse is not an option.

You're never lost. You're always where you're supposed to be even if it's the unknown. Some places are just better than others. Good to reflect periodically.

Good stuff, George. If getting dings is fun, you must've had a blast picking up that tailgate boo-boo! Love the license plate, too. :-)

G'day, Bill - the ding came from a low corner of my own front porch! Doh! A blind spot in my mirrors :( The licence plate is photoshopped, for security reasons, but now I'm seeing if I can order one!
:) G!

What a smart post, George. Just love your analogies. Well written! Your picture looks like some of the roads that I have to travel for real estate. *smile* It's always a challenge.

Reflection can take you down many Gypsy Roads! haha Just had to put that in there! Your photo takes me back to Maine, on my road Mt Hunger. In the spring it looked a lot like that but, we called it Mud Season! LOL Thanks for the blog!
Gypsy Roads :)

Beautifully spoken, George! ....knew I'd bumped into you somewhere along the road.... :-)

Was that you, Cathy? At least I didn't splash you with water along the way. You have an interesting road to travel as well, so we may bump into each other again.

Very clever stuff as always George. I wish I could write in the free flowing manner you have.

Thanks very much for your comment, Gary - I wish I knew all the techy stuff that you do! How many pages did you say you'd written for your website? Hundreds? You're miles ahead!
:) george

Well it's probably not as exciting a it sounds George, I will most likely need to get into the thousands before I even start to make an impact and see any success. The big boys most likely have people writing lots of copy for them every day so I still might never get anywhere near them, but I'm going to give it a go.

George, lovely metaphor....you are an original, no doubting that! Thanks for sharing, Andy

Thanks, Andy - sometimes you have to travel millions of miles before you work out where you want to go. Can't wind back the odometer!
:) george

Hey George....lol...like your musings alot....and furthermore, all those dents and dings just add character! I have not always wanted to be a "character", but somehow ended up being one......and I believe you are one, too. Welcome to the club!

You and Jessie take care - easy does it since we know backtracking is a laborious process. See ya in the breakroom for donuts.

Suz

Good on you, Suz - you're quite right. Backtracking is not an option! I've had quite a few dings and may even get a few more before I'm done with. But getting them was sometimes fun! I hope those donuts are dietary ones - there's more of me than there needs to be!
:) george

Dietary donuts - what a concept! Uh huh, these are all sugarfree, no fat, no carbs....anyone alive believe that??
