This weekend, I drove over 1000 traffic in less than 24 hours from facebook from what has been built in the past. Its NOT DEAD, just have to know how to use it.
I can absolutely validate that advertising Facebook pages to accrue likes is a scam. From every test I have run, 99% of the likes were from developing countries with ZERO engagement...likely fake accounts or click-farms.
I have also created a video in the past on the time versus value for Facebook fan pages:

Tread carefully when paying Facebook money and definitely DO NOT pay for Fan Page likes.
Seems anytime with just about any service out there when they offer you targeted customers, fan page likes, and about anything else there is always a catch.
I simply do not use any of them.
Thank you Kyle for the info, and Nikolar for posting this. :)
Yeah, keyword advertising through PPC (Google Adwords & BingAds) are the safest form, most reliable, and most powerful way to get reach through paid advertising. Even at that there is still a certain level of fraud taking place (usually by your competition).
I wasn't aware of this. I thought about doing FB advertising at some point rather than PPC, but I still have a long way to go before that. I guess the best way to get traffic is to focus on your site and building quality content.
Exactly, get into PPC when you are ready and have a budget for it. I recommend you learn about your audience and how to promote to it before you enter the PPC world.
It really depends on the objective. There are some situations that I think advertising on facebook provides value.
Yeah, you're right. I don't think FB advertising is bad, it's just how and what you advertise that you should be weary of.
