Question about Rate of Posts
Hi all!
I've been reading some great tips about how frequently one should update a blog and the consensus seems to be 2 times per week minimum to keep traffic interested.
I was hoping for feedback on my posting-rotation plans for my site.
If you haven't heard already, my site will be a Self-Help Book review site. I've read a small library of self-help/self-improvement books and I want to offer my views, opinions and experiences with what I've read/will read and help people stay informed about what they will be getting with each book.
I have already read many, but I will be re-reading or skimming through each one in order to offer a thorough review, and I want to allow myself enough time to do this without loosing reader interest, as well as set myself up on a time frame that would allow me to re-read books I have already read AND read new books as I advance past my current collection.
I am planning a 2-week post rotation of sorts. A four post-per-book template I will be using with each review. I wanted to get some feedback on this as some of the things I wonder about this is if it will be too much...you'll see what I mean (or maybe you won't, and that will be GOOD) in a sec...
So, here is my current plan, up for tweeking and revising..
1st post
Upcoming
-A preview of the book I will be reviewing offering a brief overview of things like; what is the book about? who is the author?what is the author's background and authority on the topic? what else have they written? what is my personal history on the topic?
I want to keep it fairly short, like, the minimum 400 words recommended for quality content, but nothing too overwhelming for the reader. I may not even hit all of the above topics, these are just ideas, or I'll touch on them VERY briefly.
2nd post
Short review
-Concise and to-the-point review. I will hit on the 3 things I outlined in my About Me page as being important things to know about a self-help book: what is it trying to improve/fix/teach and what method(s) does it suggest? how well did the book convey it's message? was it not just informative, but successfully motivating and supportive?
3rd post
Video review/discussion
-This post will link to a YouTube (or similar) video that briefly repeats what I posted in the "2nd" post, with a short summary of the video (I will not be concerned with hitting 400 words in this post as I am offering many quality text posts in my other 3 posts) The video will mainly focus on posing a discussion of the book, for comments and video replies, that incorporates my thoughts and feelings on the topic, philosophy and tactics of the book.
4th post
In-depth review/summary
Combine all 3 of the previous posts, slightly re-worded of course to avoid duplicate content, into a longer, in-depth review of the book.
Ultimately, I want to buy myself time to read the books, and RIGHT now, I think 2 weeks is about what I can expect to get through an average length self-help book. In the long term, if I ever find myself succesfull, I should have more time on my hands and should knock out each book in a week.
To a degree, the 4 posts over 2 weeks almost feels like too much, and too much can also lose readers interest...but then again, I am offering a plethora of information, and as I build a known pattern, readers of different preferences and learning styles will figure out which post best suits them, and will return for the post they like to see, and there will be a different post reviewing the book in a different way for other readers. I think I will offer the most in-depth and divers review of a book ever, LOL
Still afraid of it just being overkill....if you agree, please let me know and then I am open to suggestions on how to fill the time as I read through a new book and try to maintain 2 posts per week. I am considering posting slightly-related philosophical musings in-between all out reviews as well, maybe mentioning things like "Hey! This book I am reading (review to be posted [DAYOFTHEWEEK]!) brought up this great new idea I've been trying out for the last few days, and I think I like it!..." to fill up the time.
UGH! I just don't know!

2-3 posts a week is a good target. Perhaps keep to your 2 a week schedule and throw in a short opinion piece once in a while.
There is one mail I subscribe to that sends out a reading list each week. Perhaps this will work for you.
