“Repetition is the mother of learning, the father of action, which makes it the architect of accomplishment.” Zig Ziglar

Meaning of the Quote:

Repetition is of paramount importance to learning. It is the embodiment of action. When the learning sticks, it is cemented in the subconscious mind as a path. Therefore, repetition is the mother of learning because of its importance in the learning process. It is the father of action because repetition in and of itself is accomplished by action. Repetition is the architect of accomplishment because it is the means by which we build skills and knowledge which are stored within our subconscious as paths.

Discussion of the Quote:

Repetition is a key learning aid because it helps transition a skill from the conscious mind to the subconscious mind. A skill gradually becomes easier when it is practiced and rehearsed over time through repetition. As you improve, you do not need to think consciously about the skill. But practice alone doesn’t make perfect, rather, perfect practice makes perfect.

Repetition is the first principle of all learning; therefore, it is the mother of learning. It is the father of action because repetition in and of itself is repeated action of something that has already been said or written. Additionally, repetition builds paths in our brains, therefore it can be considered the architect of accomplishment in terms of the accumulation of skills and knowledge within our subconscious mind.

Final Thoughts:

“It is frequent repetition that produces a natural tendency.” Aristotle. Repetition is how tasks and knowledge can become second-nature. By the act of repetition, the skills and knowledge stick. They are then transferred from the conscious to the subconscious and stored as paths of skills and information. Therefore, repetition is the mother of learning, the father of action and the architect of accomplishment.

I appreciate your time and your comments.

Kind regards,

Nichola

Hi Nichola I totally agree. I also feel that repetition also helps to develop habits. Both good and bad. But somehow it seems easier to develop bad habits lol.

I'm getting off topic and I apologize. When we repeat necessary tasks to grow our business and don't enjoy them because they may be boring, the only way is to bite our teeth and just do it.

Thanks for this great reminder.

Content creation was not my favourite or easy for me. But the fact that is an action that I have to do over and over again, I am where I never was before.
So I agree that repetition is a key to learning.

Great post. Someone once told me "if you want to learn something, teach it" You certainly can't teach something if you don't understand it, this is a great teaching on repetition and patience. Thank you!
