Building Things That Are Important!
Quote of the Day:
“The bird a nest, the spider a web, man friendship.” William Blake
Meaning of the Quote:
Friendships, webs and nests are all important in the lives of men, spiders and birds because they serve specific purposes and functions in their lives.
Discussion of the quote:
It is important to create things in life. Sometimes these things may last a lifetime. As the saying goes, to each his own, so men create friendships, while spiders create webs and birds create nests. All these things are important for the survival of men, spiders and birds.
Additionally, one may ask - what is the importance of friendships to men, webs to spiders and nests to birds. A nest to a bird is home, safety, a place of residency and a place to give birth to and raise their young. Also, a web is where a spider calls home. A place they can move around extended in air. It is also a trap to catch insects so that they do not have to hunt for food. Friendship to man is his support system, the people that have his back and look out for him in good and bad times he can depend on his friendships. It is his safety net.
Final Thoughts:
Friendships, nests and webs are all support systems. Friendships for men represent trust, honesty and authenticity. These are qualities that build strong friendships that hold people together and help them to realize and experience the fullness of life.
Furthermore, nests help birds to fulfill the purpose of raising their young by providing a safe place first to hatch their young then to raise them in safety from predators until they are able to fly out of the nest and be on their own - empty nest. Then the cycle continues.
On the other hand spiders weave their webs to act as traps for insects which will provide them with food so they do not have to work too hard to find food. Spiders are necessary to the environment because they help to control insects that are harmful to humans by eating them. Also, spider webs serve as a place to call home where they move around freely.

There's a common strand running through all three: a nest is a support system for birds, a web is a support system for spiders while a man's friendships are his support system.
