hello..i am stuck on customizing the website ...i understood how to create new pages but i want to change the front page picture or to add columns on the side or to put the private

another question ...i am again abit confused ....i want my website to be like a store online i understood that for every product that i want to promote i have to write a post ... my question is what's the point for the pages i've made if i have to write a post which doesn't go under the page that i want ..it stay on the first page

I believe writing about the product is for circumstances where you don't have a store. I think if your website is going to be basically a store you wouldn't need more than a basic product description.
If you type in the word store into the question box above, there will be many results.

and if i will do only the basic product despciption i can add those products under the page that is related to the product?

yes. I have an amazon astore which is different than your website being a store. I don't know much about those kids of stores - that's why I suggested you try the question box above. There is a lot of information about stores there. Here is what an amazon astore looks like: http://mosm.siterubix.com/store-2
You're supposed to be able to embed the store to the page but I had trouble doing that (possibly because I'm still using siterubix) so that's why you have to cllick on the link.

I see you have change to the Expound theme, it looks like a nice basic theme. One thing to watch out for though is that the last theme update was in January of 2014. WordPress 4.0 has been released and the theme hasn't been updated recently so there may be problems. If the theme isn't updated soon, I would start shopping for a new one.

Try typing WordPress 101 into the top search bar. There are some good tutorials on basic WordPress Functionality there.

If you haven't walked through this tutorial you may find it helpful. https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/set-up-a-wordpress-website-complete-guide/what-we-are-going-to-cover

this Expound theme is much more easier to work with for me since i am a beginner and it doesn't force me to upgrade

I like that theme- I've used it's cousin theme many moons ago.

My question would be what's you intention behind using that theme? Why do you like it? Are you able to communicate your message through a different WP-Theme until you've gotten your skills to that theme's level? Worst case scenario there are certified programmers out there who can upload your images for you relatively cheap so you can focus on your content and message. I had to start that way until I could master the basics of WordPress.

I've even used SquareSpace to get my sites up and quickly so I could get my message across on a relatively decent platform while learning WordPress.

well...i have choose it because it said there it's easy to use but it seems it is not that easy because i feel stuck in many ways and right now i feel i don't know how change it either because when i try to change it it gives me only 4 options and i even don't know if they are more complicated or not...

I would recommend the Expound theme first if you're new to WordPress, with the intention of changing the theme to WP Opulus once you master WP Basics.

WP is more conceptual, meaning that once you "get it," you can take any theme, move blocks of content around to your satisfaction in the theme you like, based on that theme's layout.

Please keep in mind WPs big draw is on the words on your page. What that means is search engines aren't that focused on images- only graphic designers are focused on that because that's what they sell.

A blog in it's proper context is just a sequence of words put together in a certain way to attract a certain person to your page.

Take a look at one of my older pages as an example. In journalism it's called "The Gray Lady" because it's all text. It still attracted an audience to push to my main site (to the point where my Alexa ranking is in the top 100,000 US websites):

http://www.TheGameExposed.com (on a SquareSpace platform)

I put up a SiteRubix site through WA with the same passthrough concept in mind:
http://thegameexposed.siterubix.com/

I'm migrating all of this content to my new WP site http://www.ThisIsFredSmith.com because I don't want to maintain a thousand websites containing the same content. That's also bad for page rankings.

Hope this helps, but sometimes less is more.

then can you explain to me how to change the picture on the banner that i have on the front page please i am using the free version and i don't have to much acces to information there

Sure. Goto https://wordpress.org/support/theme/wp-opulus That link has support specifically for that theme.

I've also uploaded the support site link and Nimbus Opus Manual theme on my website: http://thisisfredsmith.com/wp-opulus-theme-support

Thanks for your trust in my response!

thanks i switched to Expound theme and everything it's so perfect now ...it's much easier to use ....the WP Opulus theme was forcing me to upgrate that's why was abit more difficult ,,,on the free option it doesn't allow to much to do thanks again

You're welcome! This should give you enough time to just concentrate on getting your thoughts together and learn more about Word Press.

Then you an jump to the other themes when you're more comfortable with handling code.

Looks like you're off to a great start!

i like to think that i am off to a great start :-) ...keep myself positive

the Theme that i am using is WP Opulus Theme it seems pretty complicated to me so i need some step by step guide

great question - this stuff needs a whole certification course of its own!!

thank you ....yes indeed needs a new certification course :-)

to add to the bottom of the page you have to add text widgets to your footer or side widget, which ever you have. Do you know how to do that? If not, I can walk you through

i don't know i feel so lost in this customizing process :)

Sorry, I went to sleep last night. I understand feeling lost. I feel that frequently lol. Here is how to add the widgets:
Go to your dashboard, then appearance > then widgets. Now themes are different, mine has primary sidebar, content sidebar and footer widget area. You will see them on the right side of the page.
If you don't have a footer one then this is how I would figure out which to use, you will add a text widget to the sidebar, type something in it, save it then refresh your website and see where it shows up.
To add text widget: on left side of screen - you see a list of available widgets, go down and look for one labeled text. Just drag and drop to the sidebar (or footer in my case). For the footer, I dragged 4 text boxes to the footer so my privacy policy is on the far right.
Open the last text box (#4) and enter this:

PRIVACY POLICY

(I'm separating here because I haven't figured how to paste it here and it still show up in code - copy and paste the section above and then copy and paste section below right next to it)
    •    COPYRIGHT @ 2014
Make sure you click save in the bottom right of the text box
refresh web page and you should see it on the bottom.
I hope that helps.

thanxs Angela

it's ok ... what i really want is to change the picture to the banner that i have on the front page and i am using the free version of my theme and it doesn't really help me with any info there ....so i a using WP Opulus theme free version and my website is organic-herbs-supplements.com

Hi Corina,

First, things, first depending on what training you've reached:

Here is a resource from Carson: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/getting-started/new-to-wa-and-wondering-where-to-get-started

For your domain: The following .com are still available which you can purchase from GoDaddy or Namecheap:

organicherbssupplements.com
organicherbssupplement.com
organicherbsupplements.com
organicherbsupplement.com

For your theme: You may need to change the following:
1. Change the main big image in your front page
2. Change this text or hide it

Welcome to theWP Opulus Theme. To edit this text please login to the dashboard and selectWP Opulus Theme Options under the Appearance menu.

3. Change the 3 image spots in your Front Page

If you have any specific question with your wordpress website building, please feel free to pop me a message.

All the best,
Jhen

thank you so much ...

thank you so much

Hey for a beginner you are doing fantastic! Okay,
(1)For your header (the name of your website), this will greatly depend on your theme but, it says right there on the page - To edit this text please login to the dashboard and selectWP Opulus Theme Options under the Appearance menu.
That is telling me you go into your dashboard, scroll down till you see appearance (just below comments). If you hover over appearance, a sub-menu appears. According to your WP Theme, it says click on options from sub-menu, and type name of website here. Publish, preview, to see changes (if any). If no changes have been made, let me know. Good luck, and do not get discouraged, we have all been here .
