This week I was part of an interesting conversation about email marketing, and it highlighted something I don’t think gets talked about enough. Not just how to build an online business but how the "flow of attention" actually works

So I wanted to share a simple framework I use:

Be Your Own Distribution

Building an online business isn’t just about creating content or offers. It’s about understanding how people move from finding you to trusting you and then buying from you. The flow of attention.

1. Reach - How visible are you online?

This is the first step. If people can't find you, they can't buy from you. Everything you learn here in WA is about reach. This includes:

  • SEO
  • Content
  • Website rankings
  • Pinterest / Social Media
  • YouTube

Build the visibility so potential buyers know where to find you.

2. Capture - Once someone finds you what happens next?

  • Do they disappear?
  • Or do you have a way to stay connected?

This is where lead magnets and email lists come into play. It is where you start building an asset within your business. A tool you can return to over and over again.

3. Activity - Is Your Audience Engaging

Now you have an email list and this is where email marketing becomes real because;

  • Are your emails being opened?
  • Are people reading your content?
  • Are they clicking through to your offer

This is where you start learning about the people on your list. Analyse the data and start testing what is or isn't working. While email list are known for building know, like and trust so the audience become buyers, this is also where you learn about your audience. What are they like, what triggers them to open your email and click through to an offer; what problems do they want to solved.

4. Conversion - How Good is Your Offer

Now you have an engaged audience is your offer clear and appropriate for the people on your list. Does it address a real problem they have and will it encourage them to buy your product.

Once they buy, what is next on your sales ladder to keep them as a recurring buyer.

The Continuous Cycle

For me, this isn’t a one-off process. It’s a cycle:

  • Improve reach
  • Capture more of that attention
  • Increase engagement
  • Strengthen your offers

Where AI Fits In

I spent years, pre AI, learning how to create lead magnets, engage with the audience, build trust and have offer stacks to keep clients buying.

Today most of it is done with AI. It can help with ideas, content creation and implementation but you still need to understand the system. Do the work and build the knowledge (WA training). AI can make you go faster but if you don't know what you are doing it could be faster in the wrong direction.

Business Models

There are many business models for online entrepreneurs. However, when you first start the grass always seems greener on the other side. Successful entrepreneurs master one, automate it so the income is flowing before moving onto the next.

If I can give you one piece of advice it is - understand the process so you can build your own distribution centre. That will then keep attention and income flowing.
