I've a problem
I'm not sure you're going to like this....
(please ignore if you're likely to be triggered by pessimism)
I only realised that this world existed about 3 days ago and since then I've been looking at different affliate training platforms, SO I KNOW NOTHING.... I do know some stuff about website design though....
Here are my problems:
- I don't want to sell more stuff, the world doesn't need it.
- I am not sure that even creating 'great content' AND doing keyword stuff will lead to sales.
Why so down? well I'm just looking at myself. I'm an unusual sort of a chap, probably, and like buying niche type stuff on the internet, in particular I have a thing about calligraphy and pens, and I do look at a lot of youtube reviews and funny little blog sites to find my next purchase, there are lots of sites out there to look at.
But you might be saying AHAA that's exactly what you were just saying doesn't happen!
So here exactly is the problem, I go to the company in Japan I send them an email and 3 months later (when they had stock in!) they sent it me the pen, it is very nice btw. Or I go the website of a pen company in Holland and buy it from them, (hopefully after Brexit this will still be possible) or I have gone to Amazon to buy several Fude pen (its like a brush). At no point was the equivalent of me ever in the way being able to take commission.
BUT there is a ray of hope maybe!
OK I could see there could be a niche in fude pens (if you don't know what they are , that is just fine - as its a niche after all. Let me do some research
So there you are then... looks interesting the QSR is low and the traffic isn't bad BUT
then look at Google
trust me when I say Duck Duck Go is just as bad. It seems like a lock out there is not space here for someone who is after all just selling what is on Amazon anyway!
What am I missing? Please don't tell me that I've just chosen a bad niche, yaxxy kind a liked it and its what I'm quite interested in, perhaps a clue is right there. A niche and an interest isn't enough its got to be a passion so passionate that I'll be prepared to create endless videos , and blog posts and never get tired. Which at the end of the day isn't really me, I've interests and hobbies but I am not that super passionate about any one thing. To be really honest I can be but only for a short while.
Apologies for the breast beating and downness of all of this but it sort of helped me.

it's not so much that everyone is selling the pens as it is about gaining a following and their trust....would you buy from some stranger or would you buy from a friend?
Build your site, create that content and then promote affiliate products.
My primary site is about drones...do you have any idea how many drone sites there are out there? Just work the program, you might be surprised.
You can always just run a site and use Adsense for ads that show products people like by their own history. So even if you are talking about pen collecting they might get an add for their favorite videogame, toaster oven, shoes, etc.
Hi Neville, Great question. If I were you, I would do some keyword research on caligraphy for beginners. It’s not just about selling, it’s about helping.
Approach a niche from that angle and you will draw in people who are ready to buy whatever you recommend.
Hope this helps.

I think what I'm learning is that I don't really want people's trust - is that a terrible thing to say, I'd rather pass on value, and getting people to buy some stuff 'cause I've shilled the hell out of it doesn't chime with my values. Being British I'm much happier being mean about stuff and hoping people feel warned off buying it, sadly however there isn't an affiliate model for short selling ;)
You don't have to lie...be honest in your opinions. Your site will die quick if you falsify your content. Reputation is earned, what that reputation will be is up to you.
If you pass on value, great, you'll build a good reputation.
