Balancing 3 Jobs!

Can you relate to this picture? Are you overwhelmed? I know I've been there and currently kinda am. Thankfully I work freelance with some great places and am able to do things somewhat at my own pace. I work as a film restoration artist which is a fancy way to say cleaning dirt off film. I do it digitally though, I don't personally touch film ever. I'm hired to come in sit or stand at a desk and go to town on various films. It can be anything from a huge film stain to a tiny tiny piece of dirt or digital error, basically anything that is unuseful to the film itself. If your old enough you remember dirty films at the movies n such. Look on your Netflix or whatever now and you will have a hard time finding much of that anymore.

The funny thing is back when I started I was told from a few guys in other departments who were now working on HD tapes n such, "oh film will be gone soon" aka my job too. I took it in stride and didn't pay too much attention to those comments. Now 15 years later, I'm busier than ever if you could believe it! Those same guys better have new positions because that HD tape came and went as fast as cheap digital storage space aka hard drives became abundant.

I'm sometimes overwhelmed because with that I'm coming home and trying to chip away at my own business as well. Super grateful that I've somehow learned to focus better by not getting too in my head about all that comes with it. I take it day by day and now improving my attack / planning skills. Letting go of excuses, having a better perspective and accepting things as they are. If I didn't do all of that I wouldn't be able to maintain this work load and outside ambition. In years past it wasn't always that way. I see now how much I let self doubt and poor execution get in my way. I had much more time to give back then even in my busy periods but I'd put things aside or just forget them all together. Some of that wasn't all bad because I was learning what I really liked and didn't. I had a notary business back then but I wasn't real into it as much as I hoped to be. Part of that was my lack of execution though. Thankfully I moved back into music which is what I 1st worked to be involved in when I came to L.A. Difference is now it's on my own terms as a small independant label. Now my obstacles is my work itself at large but I'm making ways to overcome it. Part of it is the planning, meaning days "off" yet I will work a bit on my own projects to get them profiting. Also important is making small periods for fun and relaxing which I'm about to do this week with my wife. Let me know if you struggle with similar things or is it opposite.

Thank you!

It can be hard bundling the week together, especially when we are trying to pack, 10 into 7.

Planning a month out and allowing time for the muck up's that arrive seems to work.

Like the image, talk about a 1000 words.

Interesting life there Nate,

I am sure it will come together for you.
