Tips for Making Videos - Editor Software

Currently I am making videos for a living. Either I make them, or I am in front of the camera because I am also an actor. I am also a teacher. So, many people ask me tips how to make videos for their websites. Here are some good advice to start on a shoestring budget.

1. You need some sort of editor software. Earlier editions of Windows had one build into it (Vista, Windows 7, etc.) You just search for "Windows Live Movie Maker" and you have your software. It is already on your computer! For Windows 10 you need to go to the App Store and download one, preferably the one with the most stars.

2. I don't suggest you start with fancy editor software. Yes, they can do every thing that Hollywood desire BUT they are too difficult to use for beginners. Learn with easy ones - then you will understand the fancy ones you are itching to do more in your videos. They all work more or less on the same principals.

3. When you use your editor, remember that your computer/software doesn't see it as a video that you are editing on it. The software sees it as thousands of pictures. Remember, a movie is nothing but photos that move in front of you eyes. Usually there are 25 photos in a second. So, a one minute video has 25x60=1500 pictures that your computer has to "work out"! That's only for one minute. It uses a lot of RAM, so save frequently your work to make it easier on your computer. In real life they are using an external hard drive to ease the burden on the computer.

4. Don't be too concerned in the beginning in making it 100% perfect. It will never be perfect! Not $250mil Hollywood movies come out perfect! Why should your first one be? But the quality of your videos will become better and better in time. Don't try to put some "wow" factor in the beginning. Keep your first videos very simple. Like I said, your work will become better, and you will edit faster as time progress.

5. Remember I've said that your computer see your editing process as a couple of pictures together in a album? When you are done with the editing, you have to "render" it. That means your computer must transfer your thousands of photos into a movie or else it will stay only "pictures"! There are many words for "render" that are being used into editing programs as commands. It can be any thing from "Publish Movie", or "Produce Movie" or "Export Movie". These are the ones I've seen before. There could be even more synonyms for render...

Video is nothing but picture as well as sound moving together. Next time I will tell you more about the picture - the camera.
