The Mind is So Powerful

Hello WA Family,

One of the reasons that I quit my boring cubicle job in a call center, was the physical and mental toll it took on me after so many years. About a month prior to leaving I experienced a panic attack. I never had one before and it was scary to say the least. My heart started to beat so so hard and fast, and no matter how much I tried to breathe to calm down, nothing worked. I was nervous about being in a crowded room with my coworkers. Even riding in a taxi was nerve wracking because I was not in control. Taking an elevator was also out of the question. My mind would wonder about being trapped. Logically, I knew these thoughts were ridiculous, silly even, but I couldn't stop them.

Fast forward to last month, when I had to take a plane to get to Florida. My mind told me I should be nervous because I certainly have no control over the plane. However, I did some research on panic attacks and what you should do if you experience one. First, you have to breathe to get enough oxygen. Secondly, keep the inner voice at bay that may be telling you something bad is going to happen. I just kept saying 'mind over matter' over and over in my head. Also, if you don't mind, it doesn't matter. My heart did began to beat fast at first but after a few minutes it began to slow down. I immediately knew that I would be fine and everything was good for the rest of the flight. I have always been a bit claustrophobic so riding in elevators always made me a bit nervous, but I had not gotten into one since that panic attack. So after I checked into my hotel, I made myself take the elevator. I proceeded to take it all weekend, whether alone or with others. Progress! The flight home was just as smooth as the first and I now know that when I put my mind to something, no matter what it is--I can achieve it.

I shared this story mainly because I think we all have some type of insecurity that prevents us from living out our true purpose. Maybe you are not where you want to be yet, but if you truly believe you can accomplish any goal if you put your mind to it, I think the most difficult part is out of the way. The body can not help but follow what the mind sets forth. So be bold in your thoughts and deeds and prosper!

I'll see you at the top!

Well said about the mind/body connection!

Otisha…appreciate your sharing. Another great resource that may be of value to you and those with similar thought patterns is a book by Joyce Meyer called Power Thoughts. I have read it 3 times and it is excellent. Our best to you. Keep up the good work.

Thanks. I will definitely check out that book. All the best to you as well.
