Why is google rank important?

Google's algorithm determines how your page ranks against other pages for a given keyword. Sometimes it's the keyword you think you're ranking for, other times it's not. That's why page quality and use of other related keywords can be so important.

Rank is important for two reasons. First you never get seen if your google rank is too low. Almost no one goes to page 2 on a search as you'll see in a moment. Second, the click through rate (percentage of time people will click to go to your post once it's displayed to them) is lower based on rank.

Here is an analysis of click through rate complements of Chat GPT based on a study by a website called backlinko that is a very credible source:
According to a study by Backlinko analyzing 4 million search results:Backlinko

Notably, the first result garners approximately 10 times more clicks than the tenth.

Data for Google search positions 11 through 30 indicates a significant decline in click-through rates (CTR) compared to first-page results. According to Advanced Web Ranking's February 2025 data, the average CTRs for positions 11 to 20 are approximately:Advanced Web Ranking+1Wisevu+1

  • Position 11: 1.0%Reddit
  • Position 12: 0.9%
  • Position 13: 0.8%
  • Position 14: 0.7%
  • Position 15: 0.6%
  • Position 16: 0.5%
  • Position 17: 0.4%
  • Position 18: 0.4%
  • Position 19: 0.3%
  • Position 20: 0.3%

Positions 21 to 30 continue this downward trend, with CTRs generally falling below 0.3%. This data underscores the importance of achieving first-page rankings to maximize organic traffic. Advanced Web Ranking

For me this has been a game changer. In the last month, my average page rank has dropped from 28 to below 23. Although my click through rate is constant, I am being seen now. A lot more. a 50% increase in impressions, translating to almost a 50% increase in clicks:
march vs april 2025
This has resulted in increase in clicks on amazon and an increase in sales.

So just an average drop in rank of 5 points has translated to a major increase in traffic.

How did this happen?

Consistently posting twice a day. Indexing it on both Google and Bing.
Updating a few old posts a day.
Posting on social media (facebook and pinterest for me)
Videos though not as consistent as I would like to be.

This has taken me from an average page rank of 36 with 7 clicks in November to over 2000 clicks in the last 28 days with an average page rank of 23 and dropping!

So rank on Google is an important indicator for how well you are doing on your blog.

Google is indeed important to rank well on Michael, but (she) has screwed many of us over the last couple of years!

There are plenty of other sources of traffic out there if we look for them...

But.... keep up the fantastic work and success my friend! :-)

Yes I was one of them. Last march, one day I had 15 clcks , then next 0. And there it pretty much stayed for months. In the interim I used YouTube and bing and started improving based on those

I hear you Michael... since last year clicks or even impressions on Google have been non existent....

But, things are definitely improving elsewhere! :-)
