OpenAI's SearchGPT is a prototype search engine that combines traditional search functionalities with advanced AI capabilities. Launched in July 2024, SearchGPT integrates real-time web browsing into ChatGPT, enabling users to receive timely, AI-generated responses with clear and relevant sources. This development positions OpenAI as a direct competitor to established search engines like Google and Bing.
It achieved GA on October 31, 2024. However it is just available for paid subscribers. One source said they will roll it out for free users over the next few months.
What is SearchGPT?
SearchGPT is designed to enhance the search experience by providing users with fast and accurate answers, accompanied by citations from reputable sources. Unlike traditional search engines that present a list of links, SearchGPT delivers concise, conversational responses, streamlining the information retrieval process. This approach aims to make finding information more efficient and user-friendly.
How Does SearchGPT Work?
By leveraging OpenAI's advanced language models, SearchGPT processes user queries and searches the web in real-time to generate responses. It synthesizes information from multiple sources, ensuring that answers are not only accurate but also up-to-date. This capability is particularly beneficial for queries requiring the latest information, such as current events or recent research findings.

Yes. I think it's a mixed bag for us. It summarizes stuff and ends with a small button that takes you to the website. So on the one hand we don't compete with ads. On the other hand, it's harder to find the link.
Yeah, it's still in beta.
All you have to do is open the link button in a new tab or right-click on it and select "copy link address."
