Unveiling Your Work Desires
If you’re like most people, you tend to derive a large part of your identity and sense of self- worth from your work. Your job is a top priority, and it may take precedence over other aspects of your life. But have you considered what your motivations are in making work so important? And have you considered whether or not your current work truly fulfills your needs? You may expect your job to meet your needs for identity, friendship, and growth.

Identity
Your performance at work affects the deeper meaning of your life. If you do well in your business or on the job, you feel good about yourself. There’s a certain pride that comes from knowing that you did a good job. You get positive feedback from others around you.
Friendship
The work environment promotes natural associations that can form into friendships. Some friendships stay in the workplace, while others carry over into your personal life. It’s easy to see why such bonds are created at work. Not only do you have a lot in common with the people there, but you also see them on a daily basis.
Growth
Does your work honor your values? Or must you compromise your beliefs or feelings to conform to your workplace? If you must compromise your beliefs to maintain a job, eventually your whole life will be adversely affected. You’ll stop caring about your work and yourself as well. Your work may become sloppy, or you may start to feel miserable and take it out on others. When you can’t control your environment , you will feel out of control in all other areas of your life.
Evaluate your work honestly to determine if it respects your real needs. Ask yourself, does my job help me grow intellectually, emotionally, socially and spiritually? If work is personally meaningful, you will be much happier and healthier for it.

I've had to move on at times, Maria, when a toxic workplace wasn't seeing my value and hindering my growth.
But sadly, there's always going to be those individuals who only see 'job security' as a priority over the important things in this post that really matter.

Excellent food for thought post, Maria. Do we live to work or work to live?
One of the coolest things about exploring the online creative universe is that we get to create our own values, and most importantly, we get to share those values. Hopefully, on the follow through we make the world or our little space that much better.
Doing the just-over-broke gig doesn't help us grow, unless the business we are working for shares our values and we are on the same journey and trajectory.
Totally agree, Maria, life is there to live, and finding that passion stream means we never work again.
