Healthy Eating & Holidays

I cant believe Christmas is almost here, I barely made it through Thanksgiving and truth is I failed in low carb foods. I will be sharing this holiday with only one other person who has diabetes. This family member has had this for well over 20 years so she is a bit more comfortable in the eating lifestyle than my whole 6 months into it. I have searched some of the food s I LOVE during the holidays and guess what? I HATE the choices that are to be comparable. Im not going to sit here and give you a bunch of BS "that it taste just like" and you try it it and it sucks just as much for you. I will share with you what I have tried and I have actually tried. Please share your recipes with us and help us all diabetics eat healthier with all the flavors!

I do not have that disease but am always willing to learn something new

Absolutely! Although my 3 girls at home don't have the T2D I have had to make the decision to bring in the less unhealthy foods. I did catch allot of flack from this action but frankly it was very hard to turn away from chocolate chip cookies and ice cream ! I made the choice to stop buying regular soda and went totally diet for them as well and guess what? They drink it ! LOL. Going to ween off soda all together but its a start. Thanks for the interest. Best of luck to you

I don't have diabetics in my family. But I do bake with low sugar and use stevia often. Simply replace your sugar volume with half that of stevia. It's sweeter than sugar, so it doesn't compare cup to cup. But it takes a bit getting used to as well.

For example, if your cookies call for 1 cup of sugar, replace it with half a cup of stevia, or work your way into changing over with 1/3 cup sugar and 1/3 cup stevia. It does have an aftertaste that you acquire. But hopefully it makes a big difference for you.

Merry Christmas!

Thank you, I have not yet tried sugar replacements, just have cut the sugar intake and carbs. I will DEFINITELY try this and let you know how it goes. Merry Christmas to you and your family

Your welcome. The great thing about Stevia is it's completely natural. Agave is another natural option too. Best!
