Have You Flipped the Switch?
As I look around here, I see so much optimism:
People helping people, people complimenting people, people encouraging people... and it's just a breath of fresh air; it truly is.
But I wonder, how many of you have permanently "flipped the switch" and live out that positivity when you're not online?
- Do you log off of WA and start yelling at the kids?
- Do you write content and then go to work and cause chaos?
- Do you encourage others publicly and beat yourself down privately?
I'm asking these questions because that's what I used to do. I was a member of Wealthy Affiliate years ago, and I was the most positive person you could ever meet...online.
When I was done building websites, I had little patience for anything else, and to be honest, I was not the most pleasant person to be around.
And you know what?
I failed. I failed because I was living two totally different lives. The person that I was offline was much stronger than the person I presented online.
You see, there is POWER in having a positive mindset and a good attitude, but there's also another piece to it. You have to practice that mindset daily. It can't be something that you turn on and off with your laptop.
What does this have to do with building your business?
EVERYTHING!!
- The "real you" takes over when you don't see your website rank in Google as fast as you expected it to.
- The "real you" speaks up when you keep seeing everyone else's success posts and yet you haven't gotten a visitor to your site in 8 months.
- The "real you" steps in when you're deciding whether to continue as a Premium member after three months and all you've done is create an About Me post.
So, what you have to figure out is, who is the "real you"?
Are you a glass half full person most of the time? If so, then you're in a great position because you'll need that attitude to sustain you through those times when things aren't going so well.
And you know what?
That positive energy actually has more benefits than just getting you through rough times. Positive energy attracts "good things" into your life, on a small and large scale.
Here's my personal small scale example.
Whenever I have a good conversation with someone at work about spirituality, positive thinking, letting go of issues, or just anything that really hits home and helps them, something strange happens. I get a free smoothie from the coffee shop.
Really.
This has happened to me 3 times now. I'll talk with someone and we'll have a breakthrough. I'll feel myself on a whole different frequency, just blissful, grateful and thankful. And as soon as I get to the register, something happens where it stops reading cards and the barista gives me a free smoothie!
100% true story.
I'm getting to the point now.
If you're not all-in all the time, if you're not spreading that love and positivity when you log off the computer, then you won't last when it rains. That good energy is like a mighty fort in the storm. When you make it part of your lifestyle, part of who you are, NOTHING can break you. Nothing can make you quit. You'll know that success is yours.
If you haven't truly flipped the switch in your life, start today. Force yourself to see the brighter side of things, all things. Compliment someone in person. Dedicate your life to being the type of person you may be pretending to be.
And then sit back and watch the magic unfold.
I'm telling you from experience, and because I have truly flipped the switch.
I live in the same house. I'm married to the same person. I have the same bills, still raising kids, but EVERYTHING has changed for me, because I changed my mindset first.
"Each one, teach one"
"To the moon and beyond"...

Very good point that you make here. I've never thought about that before. I suppose that I occasionally (well maybe more) I can be a negative person and sometimes hard to get along with, but we're all human, and therefore imperfect. It takes the humble person such as yourself to admit their faults, learn from them, and rise above--or flip that switch!

Hi Jeff!
Thank you for reading my post.
I totally get that none of us are perfect, trust me, as I am certainly not!! I just wanted to encourage people to be as positive offline as they are online, to really reap the benefits of all that good energy.
And thank you for taking a second to analyze your own actions and disposition. It takes a lot to admit that you've got some negativity going on. The beauty of it is that once you become conscious of it, you're more prone to change it.
Have a great day!!
That is a very valid point that you have, Tonya--Thanks for the post which raises all of our collective awareness!!
Jeff
Hi Tonya. It takes a lot of courage to open up the way you did in your blog. Personally I don't believe I'm perfect in either my offline or online world's, but I do try my best and that's all any of us can do. Jim
Hi Jim!!
Thank you for reading my post.
I'm not perfect by a long shot, but what I was trying to get across is that the sheer conscious effort to be positive is a great start.
I actually kinda teared up writing this because I had to reflect on how much of an ass I used to be.
We are all human. It is normal to compartmentalized our lives, just like how we behave at home versus work versus church. Good to realize that and be a WHOLE person everywhere, in everything we do and every situation. We need to bring our sub-conscious habits out and make a conscious effort to control our habits and behaviors. Good post and great point about being honest with ourselves.
Hi!
I agree... Be a whole person, everywhere, in everything that we do.
I'm glad you read this post because I almost deleted it... I didn't want anyone to take it the wrong way!!
Just felt like sharing my experience and point of view tonight.
Thank you for engaging with me :)

Thanks for sharing this today.
I am as some may say a work in progress.
I do try to be the real me here and in public and will try to learn when I do not achieve that.
None of us are perfect all the time.
It is learning to address change when you can.
It is an ongoing process that takes time and commitment.
Thanks again
Darren :)
Hi Darren!
Thank you for reading my post.
No, nobody is perfect, and please forgive me if that is the way this post "feels". I'm not here to judge anyone, but to remind them to be their best, always.
We're all a work in progress... :)
