I Think It's Time For A Little Less "Hype"

Like many of you out there I am on several of the "big time" "super affiliate" marketers mailing list(s).  Every day I receive from 5 to 10 emails touting the newest, best, different from all of the rest, have to buy today or loose out - income producing system.

I know that times are tough, but the claims being made by some of these sellers often makes me laugh.   Of course the income claims are nothing new - we all take those with a grain of salt, the one that gets me the most is when the seller says - "This is Push Button System",  implying that all you have to do is push a button and magically the money will just flow in.

I feel it's time to be brutally honest with all of you out there, especially the newbies - "There is no such thing as a push button system" and the sooner you realize that, the sooner you'll be saving time and money and start building your own business.

The cold hard truth is Internet Marketing is not just pushing a magical button causing money to start falling from the sky directly into our pockets and bank accounts.  It requires an investment of time and effort and I think these "guru's" should be honest about that, it would not only help there credibility, it would help the industry as a whole.

Having said that though, here are some truth's about IM - Yes you can make a lot of money with not a lot of work, but it will require work to set up and usually ongoing work to keep the income flowing in.

IM is not about working hard, it is about working smart - like most things, the more time you invest in it, the more you will get out of it.  It's not magic or simply pushing a button.

Thanks For Reading.

Hi. I'ved been raked through it too, to the tune of thousands of dollars. The thing that makes it wrong is that the gurus are dealing with innocent, uninitiated people who just want to know "how" to do this thing. Not everybody is looking for a free lunch, or overnight success. That's an insult to intelligence, though truthfully, I've fallen for it off and on. People are just trying to get some real information, so they can apply themselves to something that's real. The gurus will probably do just as well financially by being straight and direct with people. They are creating cynics. IM is like everything else. It's a process. You grow with it and your success is exponential. The genius of WA is the honesty of it. You have every advantage in that you are in a community of like minded people, though of varying degrees of accomplishment. You learn from everybody. Apply yourself. If you fall into a ditch, a WA member will generously pull you out. What more can you ask?

I couldn't resist to not write something about this matter. I too am subscribed to a few of those "high roller" IMers, and I dont mind them using this strategy... and after a while you will notice a distinct pattern of keywords they use, e.g. "easy", "fast", "instant" (my favourite)... etc. but reality is a taddy bit different.

Thanks Mr.Stealth. I get sick of all these "promise you the world" schemes too. It's just sad so many people believe them (as I did once!!) Sure we've all fallen for a few in our time, so glad I found WA and got my self on the right track before wasting a WHOLE lot of money. Cheers

Hooray for MrStealth!
I'm probably one of the "newbiest" newbies out here, but thank God (and Kyle & Carson!) that I learned this lesson early and I had only spent $17.00 before I found WA. I intend to work hard and pray that someday I will be as good at helping people to realize this same thing as Kyle, Carson and MrStealth. (And at making money too, of course!) Keep spreading the word and the best to you.

A good product will sell itself (:

I couldnt agree more, and I have on of those products now.. accept you wont find one of those pitches on our site.. What ever happened to the low pressure sales? I know I am still a young pup... But I still believe that if you work hard and keep working hard that people will see that in you, and for that reason chose to take your advice.. I mean after all credibility to me is the strongest sales pitch of all.. If you read a merchant page, and there is honesty and credibility, then you have a better idea of what you have the "opportunity" to purchase.. Low pressure is the way to go.. honesty is the way to go.. I get sick of all the games with these "systems"... Unless the "system" includes hard work, honesty and structure.. It is just another "system"... But what do I know ... haha

It always lends more credibility to the marketer when they tell me up front that there is some work involved. Even outsourcing a job usually takes some work in the beginning, at least if you want it done efficiently.

Great post to keep my Newbie head on straight!

And, as someone who knows law very well that droplr article that keeps getting passed around is majorly misleading. It was settled out of court, Google made the decision to remove the site without legal action meaning it could have been something else. A lot of the story comes from a mystery representative talking about how he agrees and that if things went through it would have been worse. And it's about getty images who could definitely profit from this story... it sounds fake tbh.

There's going to need to be something more substantial than a PDF and the "idea" that unmarked public images are illegal.

Here's the biggest thing to remember Google and DMCA basically act on their own and make decisions totally arbitrarily. The courts make decisions on a case by case basis and in the case of the internet RARELY rule in favor of the plaintiff (a basic search on Google Scholar will show that).

There are no clear laws on copyright and from what I'm seeing if you take images directly from a website that sells images you're much more likely to have problems, even if they say it's free. Getty Images in particular seems to be one of those companies that has high favor with the Supreme Court and uses them to their advantage quite often, in being careful I'd avoid them like cancer.

I write a lot on politics and this is one of those things that is obviously about the profit of out of court settlements and arbitrary judge decisions that have no consistent basis. That being said, I'm going into more complicated grounds that are much more involved. And it would involve me getting into the higher debate of IP and whether it's stifling innovation or not.

So here's my end advice. Check your state law, don't trust random blogs, don't trust any site that someone posts as "legit", don't think that just because you "buy" a photo it means you're in the clear. Don't be afraid, don't be reckless, make your own decisions, do your own research.

Thanks MrStealth!
I just joined few minutes ago. I understood before I joined that this is not a push button system and WILL take effort.
I see that you joined back in December. Let me know you have any suggestions on getting started.
Thanks Steve L.

You hit that nail right on the head! Like anything worth having or eating, only time, proper action, and attention to detail make for a good IM experience.
