First email subscriber!
I finally bit the bullet and set up an email list for my blog.
It took me a while because I couldn't decide on which service to use and I wasn't sure how I wanted to market it.
The funny thing is... I tell people all the time to not spend too much time picking the perfect niche. Just pick one and run with it - you can always change things later.
So I finally took my own advice and went for it with the email list.
I signed up with MailChimp because it's free for up to 2,000 subscribers, but I plan on switching to ConvertKit once I have some income coming in. (Sounds like that is the best for offering a flexible email course)
I have only done the bare minimum so far by adding a widgit to my sidebar with an incredibly simple email optin that MailChimp generated for me.
I haven't created any fancy landing pages or announced the email list on any of my social media websites.
But then I checked this evening and already have one subscriber!!
Small win...Big feeling of accomplishment.
To give other newbies an idea of how that fits in with my traffic, I'm getting roughly 100 visitors per day right now. The majority is organic from Google searches.
I'm hoping that I will be able to grow my list over time (just like the traffic).
And I'm definitely planning on offering a freebie for the email optin, but I haven't decided what the heck to offer yet. One more step to power through!

Haha thanks Nathan! It just blows me away that there are people out there who actually want to read my blog. And apparently one person out there so far who cares to be notified when I have more stuff to say. My whole life, I explained my quietness/shyness as "I just don't have anything important to say". So this all feels completely nuts to me lol.
Hi, congratulations. Many more will come. The optin you mentioned is this somewhere on the sidebar or a popup on the page? I find popups annoying.
Yeah, I'm not the biggest fan of popups either. It's just a small widget on the sidebar and it only asks for the email address. I'm not requiring a name or anything else.

I got one subscriber a few days ago and I thought I was being hacked...lol ! Because my site is probably on page 3,247 of Google, and who would be reading that page? Congratulations!
