Goodbye Twitter, I really did try.

I've just deleted my Twitter account.

I tried, but I never really got the hang of it and I don't see why I should waste any more time fretting. I think way too much of Twitter it is vacuous and/or unpleasant.

We're rightly encouraged to use social media because it can undoubtedly help our businesses, but it's not compulsory, and if we do it's perfectly okay to pick and choose.

By choosing to use the social media we like and can relate to, rather than what we think we're supposed to use (ie all of it) we're much more likely to do a better job.

Pete

I did an experiment with Twitter using Buffer for scheduled tweets. There was absolutely no difference in the traffic to my site over the week. I'd done the whole interaction thing, retweets, following etc, waste of time.
You're well shot of it!

I agree with you Peter, never seemed to be able to make Twitter work out for me either. Time to move on. :)

Hi Pete, I'm not a big fan of twitter either. It takes time and patience to set up and get familiar with each type of social media. I have resigned myself to just three and Twitter is not one of them! I think you choose which ones you are most comfortable with and what fits your product lines. Just move on...! Best of luck to you!

I agree with you.

Sometimes I find great information, especially from BBC news or Independent. It takes few minutes to go through tweets. I think it is important what are you following.

2

That's a good point Nemira. While I don't use social media to promote my sites I do get information I can use. For example: One of my Facebook "friends" was promoting an MLM on his wall.
I did some research and found some great low hanging fruit. I reviewed that MLM and it has been on page one in Google for months!

2

I'm sure you're right and it's a question of using it correctly and to your advantage, but as I say, I've tried so I think it's time to let go!

1

Pete, I relate to you completely....finally someone who
sees Twitter for what it really is...bar-NONE, the BIGGEST
waste of time on the net!

2

I suppose it's works for some people, but clearly not us!

I have twitter account but don't get into it much it is time factor issue but if you link everything together whatever you write on your web page or when you post on your facebook about your web page it automatically gets posted in all your social networks.

One of the things that bugged me was my Facebook posts turning up on Twitter! I realise it's a settings thing of course.

1

I think it is a plus having what you wrote on Facebook appear in twitter providing you kept it professional, like killing two birds with one stone.

Yes, this is not the end of the world. At the end of the day if you find yourself wasting time on a social network and getting little to no value, it is never a bad thing to cut the cord.

At the end it is your onsite activities, your content creation, working to get comments/engagement, and providing your users with a quality user experience that will lead to rankings, traffic, people sharing your site, etc.

Agreed Kyle. I kind of felt I was 'supposed' to like and use Twitter because so many people do. But as you say, it's the quality of our sites and the engagement that really matters, and that engagement doesn't have to come through Twitter!

Well said. I too do not use twitter. I struggle to understand Facebook, Pinterest and Google+ so I am sure that twitter would become a burden!

They all have their issues as far as I'm concerned, but Twitter was for me the worse!

I've never used it. I believe my time is best spent creating new content for my site. So I don't get a short term blast of un-targeted traffic. Writing content based on phrases people actually look for seems to be a better use of my time. Just my 2 cents :)

1

Agreed Steve. It's such a relief to get away from it, like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders!
