The strangest secret
The following is an excerpt from an audio / video presentation by Earl Nightengale in 1956 (The Strangest Secret). This recording is chock full of wisdom and I would recommend visiting YouTube to hear it in it's entirety (see below). The underlying theme is as follows:
"Success is the progressive realization of a worthy ideal."
Analogy of Fertile Land to the Human Mind
Suppose a farmer has some land and that land is good, fertile land. He may plant whatever he chooses, the land doesn't care, it's up to the farmer to make that decision. Remember we are making a comparison of the land to the human mind - it doesn't care what you plant in it. It will return what you plant but it doesn't care what you plant.
"AS YE SOW, SO SHALL YE REAP"
The land doesn't care, it will return poison in the same wonderful abundance as corn. So up come the two plants; one corn, one poison. The human mind is far more fertile, far more mysterious and incredible than the land but they work in the same way. What we plant, must be returned to us - so be mindful when planting. The human mind is one of the most unexplored entities on earth.
So, why don't people use their minds more effectively? The human mind comes as standard equipment at birth, no charge. Things that are given to us, we place little value on. Things we pay money for - we value.
So, decide now, what is it that you want? Plant a worthwhile goal in your mind, it may be the most important decision of your entire life.
