Affiliate Program - An Unexpected Result

Ok, so I have already got an Amazon Associates account and have now been looking at other more niche specific ones as per Course 3, Lesson 3. I did sign up for one and they requested a small fee, to which I paid as I know this is quite common.

The next day I received an email from them asking for some more information as to how I would promote their retailers; how I would drive traffic and the advertisers I intended to promote.

I responded thinking, after having read that many people do not get accepted the first time, that I would lose my fee and have to reapply. I wrote to them with an open and honest response stating that I would not be creating any content that was plagiarised or use spammy techniques and that my site was in its infancy, as no doubt many of yours probably are. I also stated that I would be adding reviews in a month or so as my content increased and this is when I would be looking at driving the traffic through the methods I will learn on WA (I didn't mention WA - they might frown upon this, I wasn't sure).

My response was to be completely transparent in my goals and my methods and I thought I would be tossed onto the heap of rejections - I was wrong.

I received a very personal email from one of their team and they offered to put my account on hold until I had developed more content and started to rank better. I wrote back thanking them and they responded once again stating that my account was on hold until such time as I wanted them to reassess it.

I was most pleasantly surprised. It pays to be honest - Martyn

I have not heard of a affiliate program were you are expected to pay, they do like to to have enough content

It is an affiliate group with many retailers. I guess it is to weed out the undesirables.

perhaps .. it is just no one has every mentioned this type of affiliate marketing and I have to say have never come across a paid one

Many affiliate programs are free, wonder you pay. Be careful about them.

That is typical Amazon!

Yes, I find it strange that you had to pay to be an affiliate too.

Martyn, I went through a similar process but I was never asked to pay.

I have applied to, been accepted or denied but never had to pay anyting, sounds strange you had to pay to be an affiliate.
To me, being an affiliate, im driving traffic to them (working for them) why would i have to pay someone so as to work for him/her?
I hope it works for you

I know, but as I was working through the course, trying to complete the check boxes, this one looked legit. It was a small amount and I believe that this might be a good opportunity to be a part of this network. I am quite new to this particular method so maybe I am being a bit naive - *sigh*.

If it works out - I will let you all know. If it doesn't, I will let you all know and ask for donations lol

Martyn

I too have an associates account with Amazon,I have earned a couple of pounds thanks to a friend here who bought things for her grandson.I had tennis products and an amazon banner on my site and she clicked on the banner, when she bought the products I got some commission.

I've used Amazon before back in my more dubious days, and still have the account which I will continue to use. I think you need to know how to use Amazon to get the best results, and there are loads of resources available on WA on how to do this.

I was just following the lesson plan, signing up to programmes - looks like I might have got it a bit wrong lol

Best of success - Martyn

I have had a few messages saying that a joining fee is a scam. Feel a bit foolish now but the sites I looked up selling the products in my niche were members of this programme. Maybe I should have emailed them to see if I could affiliate with them individually? The programme is Affiliate Window.

Cheers and possibly oops - Martyn

I typically go for the sites that don't require a fee. You showing have to pay to promote someone else's products

Glad it worked out in the end.... or will do once you get more content. However..... paying a small fee to join an affiliate program is by far not "common". To be honest.... I have never heard of such thing. Not that I have seen or been in contact with every program there is :)

But still..... I join TheOldSilly there...: which program was that. may I ask? ^^)

which program was that, may I ask?
