Motivation and Consistency
Let’s talk a bit about motivation. Motivation is a fickle creature. How many of you have wondered, as I have, how at one point you can feel like you’re unstoppable and yet at a later point feel like you just don’t want to do anything? There is a reason for this, and that reason is motivation is fickle and will not always be there at all times. These short bursts of motivation frequently come in and out during the day, the week, etc.
Many people chase motivation as their fuel to accomplish the things they want to get done. When not present, the decision is usually made to push the tasks off to a later time. This of course produces negative responses as folks seem to lament the fact they’ve pushed off completing a task yet again. What happens when motivation isn’t present for an extended period of time? People have bad days, bad weeks, and run into stretches of time where motivation may be at an all-time low. Do we continue to push our tasks off and continue the sick cycle?
The answer of course is that no, we cannot continue the sick cycle and we must not continue the sick cycle. So how do we avoid this? The answer itself is simple, but takes some true grit in execution…
Consistency is the dream maker. Consistency will always be there for you. Being consistent and being disciplined in regard will help you accomplish far more than motivation alone ever will.
When you break down your goals into tasks and go about a consistent approach in accomplishing them you achieve the desired results. Rather than wait on the motivation to arrive, set aside some time daily, every other day, twice a week, whatever it may be to get your tasks done. Set up a nice work routine and stay disciplined, resolving to keep to this routine because the end result is something you really want.
But what happens when the time comes to get to work and you really don’t feel like doing anything? It has been often said that the moment you really don’t want to do something is the moment you must do that something. Feelings like these only get in the way and must be ignored. Remind yourself the next time you attempt to put a task off to a later date that you really don’t have to feel like doing it, you just have to do it.
The routine and commitment to getting things done regardless of feelings is what has enabled many successful innovators and creators to achieve their dreams. World renowned artist Chuck Close said it best when he said “Amateurs look for inspiration. The rest of us just show up and get to work.”
Don’t wait for the motivation to come every time you want to get something done. Resolve to push forward and work consistently towards your goals and tasks, regardless of how you feel. Sticking to a routine and committing to the work will get you to your dreams faster than a feeling ever can.
Best of luck to all you!Recent Comments

Thank for sharing! This is a serious topic as we discuss our quest for the dream of an online income. I know that I struggle to always maintain the excitement of what I'm doing. I wish I knew better, and had more motivation to find and use the methods that would best help me to be consistent. I know writing up a weekly chart of everything I would like to do in a week helped me, but it takes time, and its hard to sit down and draw it all out. I wish I knew the perfect way to get myself in gear. We are all in this together. We have to take things one day at a time, and one paw at a time.
I needed this today man. Thank you so much! :)
