what happens if i build a website on WA with a domain i didnt buy? would i not own the website? why exactly do i need to buy the domain in order to own it, even though nobody i
Good question. MooLawn, I've wondered if I could adopt an abandoned website. Hmmm,
I pose the question, can an abandoned site be adopted?
Ps Thanks for the follow!
Do a Google search for: how to buy abandoned websites This will give you a place to start. You can also look up how to buy old domain names. You might find a domain name that would have ranking because of it's age and monthly searches for that exact phrase. Just be careful that the site or the domain name has not been de-indexed by google for one reason or another. It would be next to impossible to revive that name or site. Happy hunting. Dave.
First, you do not know that the domain name you want to use is available until you do a domain search. When you attempt to buy your domain you at find that your idea has already been usef.
Regardless, you can start with a siterubix domain to see if this is what you want to do, but it may be harder to get ranked in the search engines. Even Kyle stated in his training module that you could stay on a siterubix domain, but it is not recommended.
An owned domain is the foundation of any online business. It costs around $12 per year. It is your own piece of cyber real estate.
People will take your website and your business more seriously if they see that you are using an owned domain.
If you build a website on the free Siterubix platform at WA, you can copy your content and re-use it elsewhere later should you leave but you will need to rebuild the site at its new location.
However, free websites cannot be transferred to another hosting service (that's because there is no domain name to transfer).
On the other hand, if you own the domain, you can transfer the website content and hosting to any other hosting service at any time and the website will look and function in the same way as before the transfer.
All free websites on the web are owned by the provider - for example, Google owns all Blogger sites that do not use an owned domain.

With any free website, the name you use in the URL is NOT a registered "domain name".
http://yourname.siterubix.com.
Anyone who wants to use "yourname" can go and buy the name at a domain registrar if no one has registered it yet. They become the owner of that name, even though you happen to be using it on a free subdomain URL, such as Siterubix, or Blogger, etc.
