Why choose a private school ....

One may wonder how the benefits of sending your child to a private school outweighs the initial costs of the education?

A private or independent school is independent in two critical ways:

Independent in governance - schools are governed by a board of directors

Independent in finance - schools charge tuition and raise money to operate as apposed to being supported by the government

It is the independence of private schools that offers four freedoms that strengthens your choice:

To define their own mission (why they exist, whom they serve)

The freedom to regulate admission (admitting students who will benefit from the schools mission)

The freedom to define teachers credentials

The freedom to teach what the teacher decides what is important (free from government curricular and textbook mandates).

Research has shown that new families who choose independent schools perceive that the quality of education is exceptional and the moral climate to be appropriate.

The typical independent school often has more diversity (racially, ethically and socio-economically).

Independent school students come from all LSM groups and one in every three students is supported by financial aid.

Parents now have the choice to choose important benefits for their children

Children's safety

Class size

Class discipline

Religious education

Greater sense of community

The above helps parents make informed choices regarding their children's future.

A teacher friend of mine here feels the same as you do on the subject. great post. Thanks for sharing.

I just finished looking at your website. I really love the subject. Particularly the sections "Starting before birth". Such good advice. It will be very interesting to parents of teenagers.

Excellent post Merle. Very helpful for parents who are sitting on the fence regarding private vs public education.

I live by this motto " you can't put a price on education"

Being myself a teacher...I found the information here very useful and interesting. Here in Colombia the rate of private schools versus public schools is greater. There are many small and affordable private schools. I have worked for more than 24 years in different bilingual private schools and I definitely resonate with what you write here. Way to go!

Thank you for your comment. Here in South Africa more and more people are taking this route
