We often judge many animals for not being intelligent by human reasoning, However you'd be surprised at the astounding capabilities they have that exceed ours by a wide degree.
Various species have made incredible adaptations' These range across most every genus and many common species. Dogs and cats are the most common to adapt to us of course. As a result they are the most kept pets.
Given thousands of years of sapient evolution birds, insects, aquatic life, primates and other mammals and many others have developed unbelievable mental traits. Crows and ravens that can count; Use of tools exhibited by more than primates (octopi); spiders adapting traps for other insects.
Linguistic abilities are quite advanced in many. I can effectively modulate my voice to get my cat to come to at times when he makes certain noises.
Cats in general have the ability of 1,000 times more data storage than an IPad! and can work a million times faster!!

In most cases the cat and in the remaining cases the cat thinks it is the master!
If apes evolved into humans, I think cats must have surpassed that mark and are just waiting to take over.
