About Mjgreene
Joined October 2013
My name is Marty Greene. I love technology and ran my own website for 2 years selling optics for the hunting industry through dropshipping. Needless to say, I have not been successful at this due to the fact I can't compete financially with the big box department stores. I truly want an online business and hope this opportunity will afford me this. I have a day job as a Product Manager and Directional Driller in the Oil/Gas Industry but have many days per month sitting at home wishing I was creating a second income stream. I don't want to be in the Oil/Gas industry forever and know my time is running out to be successful in any type of online business. I love anything outdoors, hunting, fishing, hiking, sports as well as technology.
Mjgreene's Goals 3
Money Goals
My goals are:
1) consistently earn $1,000 / month for 6 consecutive months
2) I'd be ecstatic being able to replace my full time income I'm earning as a Directional Driller so I could make this a full time business.
3) I am willing to commit whatever it takes to make goal #2 a reality. I must, however, continue my work as a Directional Driller until then which will limit my time somewhat. I can realistically commit 20 - 25 hours / week.

mjgreene, I agree with the work-hour numbers you use to get your goals accomplished. People who work another job, have to take that into account. I believe you will transition out, if you worked on your website(s) 20-25 hours a week. It wouldn't be long!

Working full time and still managing to do 20-25 hours/week training and business building is awesome. Great attitude!

Thank you Kyle. I am trying to work through the training ASAP. I am limited on my online time because of my work but I am excited to get a "successful" website kicked off. I am really wanting to go into the affiliate marketing industry and know absolutely nothing about it. I have tried the eCommerce route and as I have stated in my bio, I spent a lot of money building a site, marketing and PPC advertizing with very, very little return, mainly because of price competition. I was and still am hoping to make this a true business that I can earn a living from in the future. I am an Entrepreneur and have owned / operated a service business with multiple locations across the US with over 50 technicians and totaling over $4M but this eCommerce stuff is kicking my butt. I guess I'm just too hard headed to give it up! Haha. I appreciate any help I can get and hopefully my experience will offer others help as well.

KISS. Keep it simple. That is my suggestion to you Marty, heading into the online world and starting right into the world of being a merchant is not the best approach. Instead, find yourself and audience, get traffic, and once you have this, you can decide on how you want to monetize this audience.

You can sell products, or you can become an affiliate which is a much easier way and yes, can lead to a full time income and then some. There are lots of affiliates making over a million a year, LOTS! (just wanted to put things into perspective for you).

I look forward to working with you!

Hi Marty, thanks for the follow! I was selling camping tents for a while through dropshipping, but it was more work than income and I think there is something else where you can work hard and earn more. I love hiking, too, miss the mountains, here in Florida everything is flat;) All the best to you!!

Hi Marty,

I wanted to take a few minutes to see how you are enjoying Wealthy Affiliate so far and to officially welcome you to the community.

I am here to help, as is Kyle, and many other awesome (and knowledgable) members. If you have any questions about getting started please let me know, or post your questions in the LIVE chat on the dashbaord.

My suggestion for getting started is the "Online Entrepreneur Certification - Getting Started (Level 1)" course found here:

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/online-entrepreneur-certification-getting-started-level-1

Talk to you soon.

Thank you Carson. I am just getting into the material and am looking forward to learning what I can. I have operated an online store for over 2 years and have spent considerable $ with little to no return. I can't afford to put more into it and have temporarily shut it down. Hopefully I can learn another way to make money on the internet as it really is a dream of mine. Not necessarily to get rich although that would be nice. But more of having fun doing something I enjoy and earning some extra "fun" money.

Hey Marty,

Awesome to hear that you have some experience in the industry. Building a business without being part of Wealthy Affiliate must be challenging because there are no programs out there that give you the training or tools to really put everything together. You're in great position now to grow your current business, or start fresh with something new.

Either way, there is no community in the world that you could be better off being part of. You've got the perfect attitude to achieve all kinds of success. KEY is to have fun while you learn and build.

I look forward to working with you.
